Guest guest
Thank you, KC, and all of you who have responded both on list and off. I'm honored and humbled by the support of the Board of Directors and membership as reflected at our just completed annual conference. IAQA does not sell products or certifications, which makes us independent from all those influences. In fact, the Board unamimously and without discussion just turned down a lucrative offer to sell a product. Here is our MISSION STATEMENT: *The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) is a nonprofit, multi-disciplined organization, dedicated to promoting the exchange of indoor environmental information, through education and research, for the safety and well being of the general public. While this gives me great hope for victims of , whether from mold or other substances, I want to state my usual caution about over-reaching and an awareness about being clear about what something means and doesn't mean. I've spent 7 years on the Board and 5 of those as a Vice President. It takes time. It takes change in society and in the make-up of the Board. And it takes ongoing effort to build relationships and appropriately partner with other organizations in multiple ways. One of the founding members and former Presidents encouraged me in this direction five years ago. I say this to demonstrate how it takes persistence by many over time to achieve a sustainable direction. Individual action, by many on this group, is critical and much has been accomplished. And then a point is reached where the individual forces need to be brought together. Many of those individuals are doing just that with other initiatives. In conclusion, I want to emphasize that my participation and comments on Sickbuildings will be my own and will not necessarily reflect those of IAQA. My ability to respond may be challanged at times but I fully intend to continue with my dear friends on Sickbuildings. Although I " teach " a lot, I learn much from all of you. A local friend jokingly said that success usually means the former friends become " peons " and forgotten. Although joking, I told him the same as what I'll tell you: My past, and your present situation, are the inspiration for my work. What happened to me and what continues to happen to you is not necessary. It is avoidable. Prevention is usually relatively simple but once harm occurs it can be outrageously damaging and costly in money, friends, health, relationships, and self. KC, by taking over this group years ago and ensuring its continuation according to ethical principles and behavior, you have done more than I have. So I want to thank you for your support and I want to take this opportunity to acknowledgeyou, too, and the role you played in my life.
