Guest guest
I think she means they are not built as tightly and other ways for air to get out of house, but will see what she meant. I have an old house, it had an unvented attic and there was no mold in attic or any signs of problems. Roofer said from inside it looked very good. He said you ought to see some attics I go into. They are full of mold and algae. --- In , " cocopollyphenol " <cocopollyphenol@...> wrote: > > Connie, you say you don't find the same problems in older homes. What is different about them? Guest guest
Our house is older, built in 1968 by a very good local builder. We are in a small development (50 houses) that was a farm & all the houses except for one street were built by the same man. We haven't had any problems in our home and have never had the windows replaced. Still have the old wooden paned ones with storm windows. We have oil heat and have it checked and cleaned every fall. The guy was just here last week and said he's never seen a cleaner furnace! Our attic is dry and has two square type vents on the back side of the roof (hip roof) and a vent high on the eve of the addition. Only two owners my mother for 26 yrs. and us since 1994 without any problems. No water damage and no problems in the attic ever except 2 weeks ago during the very HEAVY rains we had. All is dry now even after some rain. Roof is almost 19 yrs. old so it's time to replace it. No sign of moisture or damage of any kind. Wood is all in excellent condition so all seems well. We even had a structural engineer come to inspect the house about 2 yrs. ago. He said the house was in excellent condition and saw no problems whatsoever. We feel comfortable with leaving things they way they are without making any huge or structural changes. We've even put off having new windows installed because I think a house needs to breathe some plus I don't want a reaction to new windows. House stays nice and warm in winter & cool in the summer with the thermostat set at about 76 or 74. NO mold and no health issues at home so we're here to stay. We have a large lawn so as we age that will become harder to take care of. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I just don't want to leave my safe home and move to a condo made of toxins. >>>>> I think she means they are not built as tightly and other ways for air to get out of house, but will see what she meant. Guest guest
Yes, newer homes are built w less air to leave, is the #1 mold issue. Had 2 older home w no attic mold.
