You will need access to the web site AND a phone line for the auditory part of the tour. There is no cost for the tour. The web address for the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports site is: www.pbis.org To register for the tour, contact Vicki Hornus at vhornus@... Some information about the site….. Mission and focus: The overall goals of the TA Center on PBIS are to: • Identify and enhance knowledge about, and practical demonstration of, school-wide PBS practices, systems and outcomes along the three-tiered continuum (primary, secondary, tertiary); and • Develop, conduct and evaluate technical assistance and dissemination efforts that allow evidence-based practices to be implemented on a large scale with high durability and effectiveness. Who might be especially interested in the resources on this site? • All educators (regular and special education) - Preschool-High School • All Administrators (regular and special education) • Researchers and Professors • College students in the School of Education or related fields • Psychologists • Counselors • Social Workers • Juvenile Justice Employees • Day Care Center Providers • Head Start Program Providers Examples of resources available on site: • Application examples of school-wide positive behavior support, state-wide initiatives, and individual positive behavior support • Planning, evaluation, and implementation tools • Past presentations given by the center partners • Upcoming conferences • Links to collaboration sites • Resources for further research This site supports LRE and inclusive education in the following ways: Using positive behavior support means that there will be system changes that make target behaviors no longer necessary. Children with special needs will have better role models because a common language and common goals are used in the school as far as behavioral concerns are addressed. Schools develop 3-5 behavioral expectations that are positively stated and easy for all members to remember. They then teach and model what these expectations look like in all areas of the school. The children are given opportunities to practice these skills and they are caught exhibiting these behaviors and given a " gotcha " . Gatchis are usually slips of paper identifying what the child was caught doing exceptionally well. The most important principle of PBS is that it uses data to make decisions.
