Guest guest
Has anyone here dealt with jury duty at all, especially after the mold illness? I received a jury summons recently. I got the date postponed, and the new date is the beginning of November. I've been thinking about the medical factors of jury duty (or even jury selection--i.e., even going into the jury building at all), too--for example, I don't know what the indoor air is like at the jury duty building, and I can't risk being re-exposed to anything. I am SO careful about where I go and what I'm exposed to. What if I am sitting sandwiched between people who have lingering odors of laundry detergent on their clothes, or what if I get exposed to other indoor chemicals (cleaning fumes, etc.)? Then there are EMFs--I intentionally do not use cell phones and do not like being around them. I disconnected our wireless Internet more than a year ago and felt better afterwards. I am assuming there's wireless at that building where I'd have to go plus many wireless phones on. I am concerned about any re-exposure to anything, whether it's chemicals, EMFs, or whatever, because I cannot afford any setbacks. I have worked SO hard to get us better and cannot afford a relapse...I need to stay focused on getting things done (now that I can actually focus better, after a very long time of serious brain fog). Plus I have spent more than my share of time feeling horrendous and don't want to revert back to feeling lousy again. I find that when I get re-exposed to anything, I can have symptoms (sometimes symptoms that drastically decrease my functioning--bad fatigue, depression, brain fog, etc.) for up to 2 weeks afterwards. So does anyone have any ideas on this? Have you heard of people being able to not even go for jury selection (let alone for actual jury duty) because of the health-related issues I just described? Would you be concerned about going to the jury building? I'm not trying to live in a bubble, although I have come to believe that for a time (a long time--years, not weeks or months) after moving out of a moldy place, it is important to have a very strictly controlled and clean environment. I believe that over time (maybe after at least a couple or 3 years), we get stronger and better able to handle toxins, etc. but for a while our bodies are still so toxic and/or fragile to handle many or any new assaults. Are people here really careful about where you go? I know I am...and it's hard to know if I'm being overly cautious. But I think if anything it's better not to take any chances. I am going to ask my local doctor (he works with environmental illness and is familiar with the Shoemaker mold protocol) whether he would write a letter for me to be excused from jury duty--one of the only ways to get excused from jury duty where I live is to have a doctor letter saying that the person has a serious illness. However, I haven't seen this doctor in about a year--I have pretty much been managing my own treatment, because for one thing this doctor is very expensive, and I am still rebuilding financially after the mold nightmare so have not had the money for expensive doctor visits. Anyway, I'd very much appreciate any ideas and tips on jury duty and how to be excused from it, under the circumstances.
Guest guest
Get a medical letter to excuse you from duty. Due to Chronic Brain Inflamation cannot focus. All you need and answer in atimely manner, make sure they have covered you, recieved it, documented it for yourself too.. No show means you get a freee straight to jail card. A warrant.  God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: judybiz2002 <judyw22@...> Sent: Sun, October 10, 2010 7:36:11 PM Subject: [] Jury duty/selection after mold illness?  Has anyone here dealt with jury duty at all, especially after the mold illness? Guest guest
I show up, I say I will probably get a migraine from the lights, AC, etc so I cannot be counted on to actually show up. Guest guest
In the past I wrote I couldn't attend due to anxiety & frequent urination needs. My responses have been expected. You could include a doctor's note if possible. Or show up as someone else said & ask to leave b/c you're not feeling well. Guest guest
I received a form to fill out for jury duty in Federal Court. I returned the form with a note that I have MCS and the fragrances, hair products and fabric softeners used by other jurors would make me ill. I also said any mold in the building would be a problem. I never heard from them again.
Guest guest
LOL. Mentioning mold will get rid of alot of people. In this case, a good thing. --- In , Sue ston <we.arethecanaries@...> wrote: > > I received a form to fill out for jury duty in Federal Court. Guest guest
Nice! I always wondered what I would say. --- In , Sue ston <we.arethecanaries@...> wrote: > > I received a form to fill out for jury duty in Federal Court. Guest guest
After getting sick, I kept getting called for jury duty which bummed me out cause it is something I've always wanted to do. Seems like I've gotton called a billion times more now than when I wasn't so sick...isn't that always the way..lol... Anyway called the local Jury Office which of course the person with whom I spoke had the deer-in-the-headlight sound in his voice as I tried to explain the MCS. He told me to submit any written documentation that shows I am permanently disabled along with some written explanation (from either a medical professional or I could write it myself) on the nature of the illness effecting my ability to serve. I am SO protective of what documentation I provide to anyone so copied only the applicable part of my SSDI Award letter from the Judge stating permanent disability, included some of my Sherry info on MCS and also wrote a statement on why I can't serve. Rec'd a letter back a few weeks letter confirming my permanent removal from the Jury Pool where I live. So mission accomplished I guess. But still would love to serve on jury, particularly a trial involving a drug company as considering the poisoning that sent me over the edge into MCS land was from a drug...well, needless to say, my vote is not gonna be on the side of ye ole drug company..lol.. Guest guest
I haven't but thought about it when my husband and son just got letters recently.I will have my Dr. write a not that I have CSM, Chronic Fatigue & fibromylagia. I don't have the last two but they are recognized as real illnesses so you should get off with those. There is no way that I could sit all day and be around all the fragrances. In the past I wrote I couldn't attend due to anxiety & frequent urination needs. My responses have been expected. You could include a doctor's note if possible. Or show up as someone else said & ask to leave b/c you're not feeling well.
Guest guest
Walk in with a mask, tell them you feel like you have the flu. Only with that they will probably just recall you. I show up, I say I will probably get a migraine from the lights, AC, etc so I cannot be counted on to actually show up. It's the truth and it worked once!
