Guest guest
I can't find anywhere that borax would be safe for my leather car seats, only that rubbing alcohol and maybe vinegar is ok. So here is what I think I'll do with my car: Wash all plastics (the dash, vents, etc), wood and windows in a solution of borax. Should I add baking soda and/or vinegar? Something like 1 tsp. Borax 1/2 tsp. Washing Soda 2 Tbsp. vinegar 2 cups very hot water ? Then try to clean the inside roof with the same solution (the car is a convertible with a soft-top). I fear I won't be able to rinse it after.. For the carpets, should I try to clean them with that solution (with a rag), or just spray pure borax on them and then vacuum it? put some of that borax solution into a spray bottle and spray in the vents. Maybe turn on the AC, then off and repeat the borax spray. Wash all leathers (seats, stearing wheel) with a solution of 1 cup rubbing alcohol and 1 cup water? From what you guys wrote and my sensitivity to chemicals, I'm kind of scared to use ammonia in the car. Does that sound reasonable? I don't want to screw it up because I'm gonna be selling it soon. (And frankly, not to play on stereotypes but as a male student all this cleaning stuff is way over my head!) Btw Sally that's one hell of a dog! > > > > I am a verocious reader but I have to buy books brand new > > Janet >
Guest guest
A 1:1 mixture of borax and vinegar or 1 teaspoon borax in a quart of water makes a great mildew remover. Just make your mixture in a spray bottle, spritz on, and wipe it off a few minutes later with a damp rag. http://greenupgrader.com/10212/borax-the-unsung-green-cleaning-hero/ Leather Cleaning : 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup vinegar Mix in a squirt bottle and shake before each application. Rub with cloth into leather for cleaning and conditioning. DO NOT USE ON SUEDE.  http://www.guvswd.org/recipes#leather  God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen
Guest guest
doesn't borax have a scented smell to it? just wondering, I think I was going to get some one time but I couldn't tolerate the smell of something in it. > > A 1:1 mixture of borax and vinegar or 1 teaspoon borax in a quart of water makes > a great mildew remover. Guest guest
Different brands have different smells. The original is scent free but I once bought Arm and Hammer and it smelled bad! > > doesn't borax have a scented smell to it? just wondering, I think I was going to get some one time but I couldn't tolerate the smell of something in it. >
Guest guest
I have one more question. I moved in this Wednesday and I'm pretty sure the building is clean - molds-wise. I had a good talk with the janitor and he said they havent had any water damage yet, and he seems very honest. The building is only 9 months old, all hardwood floor, i'm on a top floor of a pretty fancy complex, very near the Pacific and facing sun+water However that brings another problem - I thought 9 months would have been enough to out-gass it, but apparently not. Whenever I open the closets the smell of paint gets worse even though this is the paint of the previous tenant (they only cleaned the appartment after the previous tenant left - per my request to not repaint it). This morning I woke up really tired and had an headache all day, and I'm pretty sure this is what caused it. Anything I can wash the place with to remove that paint smell? Guest guest
That's a tough one-in general if you air the place out enough paint will always offgas. If it's not paint you smell, if its bad spackle or something else, it may not offgas (I had that happen once) and you may have to repaint with a non VOC paint to seal it. Can you leave the closets, windows, etc open for a week or so before you move in? I would also blow a fan to exhaust the bad air out. Maybe a wash with something neutralizing would help-maybe vinegar? I never tried it but I would if I needed to, it sounds reasonable. > > > I have one more question.
