Guest guest
I got a small victory today thanks to you all!! We were able to prove that Polly D. Vann dba V-Tech was not licensed with the state of texas and was not qualified to do perform any of the test she did on our building. We advised the building owner and I think he is really know he is in trouble now. He did not follow any procedures required by the state of texas. First he hired a restoration company that was not ceritfied or licensed to remove mold. Second he did not have any test performed on the air before the mold was removed. He did not take any samples of the mold that was removed. The restoration company did not quarantine any of the offices that were being remediated. Finally he did not hire a licensed mold consultant to test the air. This would be Polly. I think when he saw the mold he was so quick to remove and didn't care who did it. Little did he know....I have you guys!! Yall have been great!! I guess he thought he could do a half ass job with no care to our health. I think he is really capping his pants now!! He has done the wrong thing from the get go. Polly was just the icing on the cake!! Yeah!!! I am sure we still have a up hill battle ahead but this was a huge road block that was crushed out of our way. Thanks again to you all. I will keep you updated on any new information. Leigh [] The Poisons and Allergens That Make up Household Dust How could they not find mold? Not a single mention despite the dust samples coming from Netherlands, 6 Midwestern states, and Sacramento. My guess is they looked at the large particles if this phrase is a clue, " ...Smaller dust particles - from 28 to 49 microns... " That's visible dust. Hair is about 100 microns. Most mold is 1-10 microns. Most particle studies talk about PM 10 and PM 2.5 (microns). The ultra-fine particles, which are even smaller, are becoming a greater concern. Either this is a lousy study or the news reporting is lousy. http://news./s/time/20100223/hl_time/0859919668700 0 Carl Grimes Healthy Habitats LLC

Guest guest
Hi I am new to this group.  I got sick in 2002 in another school building that had mold in it. I was in a computer lab. The school dept decided to do construction in my immediate area. They opened walls put holes in floors etc. They used pressure treated wood in a closet in my room and made an electrical room in my server closet, The hot air blew in my room.  Temp in my room was over 90 degrees. The roof for the bldg had been leaking as well for years. It was leaking in my immediate area.  I started losing my voice ( hoarseness , laryngitus, paresis, LPR, Vocal cord problems, shortness of breath, nodules, developed asthma, muscle joint problems( RA, FM), high blood pressure and so much more. I got skin and eye irritations.  I never had any health issues prior to this. I went back to work after being on WC. I went to the 2nd bldg.  I had some issues there. ( I lost my voice) My boss did too after there was a leak in the room next to mine.  .. I moved to a different bldg fall 2009.( when my building closed. I had 504 work accommodations that never really got followed. One was to be placed in a healthy bldg. I was put in a sick bldg. again.  I got sick this fall 2009 because I had mold in my classroom. Mold was growing on a cork board in my room. There was also a leak in the room. The school dept. had a custodian remove the cork off the top part of the board. They left the wooden portion of the board in the room ( It was all black which I imagine was black mold) I took pictures of all of it. I got sick with back to back sinus infections, asthma flared up. I got bronchitus, lost my voice and burst a blood vessel on my vocal cord from the cough I developed. I had fatigue and my blood pressure was elevated. I ended up going to the drs, numerous times, ENT and a new occupational environmental dr. I am now out on WC. . I found out this school  had a problem with mold issues. They did air quality testing after the moldy board was removed.  ( 1 month later) The school dept does their own testing. They always say there are no issues.  First time around 2002 I had someone scrape mold from classroom and it was sent it to a lab at MIT to prove there was mold. ( I found out what type it was) Again school dept. tested after mold was removed. They stated air was fine. ( no issues) Exactly what do they test when they do air quality testing ?  De
Guest guest
De: They only test for the presence of mold spores. The test is only good for the time that it was taken. It is not good for the historical conditions of the building. If you will email me separately I will send you a copy of my paper on the Biocomplexity of Damp Indoor Spaces. This will bring you up to speed on what they should have tested. Jack-Dwayne: Thrasher, Ph.D. Toxicologist/Immunotoxicologist/Fetaltoxicologist www.drthrasher.org toxicologist1@... Guest guest
De, There really is no such thing as an " air quality test " just as there is no single " health quality test " for people. Air quality is a complex combination of lots of factors, mold being just one of them. If they tested only for mold and declared anything at all about " air quality " then they have a gross misunderstanding of what they are doing. They get away with it because most people don't know the difference. What is needed is a professional inspection and assessment, which may or may not include testing for mold and perhaps a variety of others substances.
