Can someone tell me?

I live in a home in Memphis, tn, that has a water leak under the house. The

front yard stays wet, the side of the house has mud most of the time and the

back yard stays moist. I moved into this house August 1, 2009. Now, when I am

here in this house, my nose runs, my breathing is labored and I get a cough.

When I leave this house and go outside for a while, the coughing leaves, my nose

doesn't run, but, my breathing doesn't get a lot better, but, does get some

better. I have to get out of here, what can I take with me out of here?

I have the same question. We are moving soon & need to know what, if anything,

is safe to take with us.

Are you sure you have mold under the house?

I had a similar short term exposure to mold and according to everyone I talked

to they strongly suggest to leave everything behind and start over. Personally I

put just about everything in storage hoping that I'll be able to use those items

in 2-3 years. What I didnt put in storage I left in the contaminated townhouse.

I didnt see any point in paying someone to move something I could never use

again.

It's so hard to know what to bring because to know for sure that an item isn't

contaminated you have to either sniff it or live with it for a while and when

you are sick both those things are just impossible.

When I gutted my basement I sent some precious heirloom stuff to my mother's

house-all wrapped up with baking soda to get rid of the smell. She is under

strict orders never to give my stuff away but honestly I don't think I will ever

bring that stuff back into my house. The books will never air out and the rest

of the stuff has lost its importance to me somehow.

So I say don't bring anything that mold loves-i.e. paper, wood, upholstered

objects, etc and be really cautious with plastics (I found they absorb mold

smell like crazy). Things that can be washed may be safe (there is tons of

washing advice in the files here-everyone has had this problem at one time).

Good luck-Surella

You can take thing you can wash like glass shelves, plastic...dishes...

Clothing can be washed several times with hot water and borax ( at store).

Afterwards with detergent and rinse several times.

Put in your storage boxes also little open packets with borax then you can open

the boxes in some years and check if you need these things.
