I have 3 Austin Healthmates, love them but they don't seem to filter chemicals,

so I bought the IQ and it does better for fireplace stink coming into the house

from outside and also when I used just a squirt of antibacterial soap to clean

the baking soda build up on one of my tubs.  I had some discomfort for a few

days but at least I didn't have to leave the house.

...Im reacting to chemicals at my current residence and not from mold. ...I was

thinking of buying an air purifier for my bedroom. The Dr that I saw today sells

the Austin Air JR for around $325.00 but before I spend any money on an air

purifier I thought I'd get some input from the people who actually use them.

I love my Rabbit Air BiosGS. It's lightweight, easy to clean, very

quiet, has HEPA + charcoal filters and does an excellent job in up to

maybe 800 sq.ft of space.

Hi Dave, that is a relief that your current dwelling is mold free, or mold safe

for you!! I used to use the healh mate junior plus in my fumey car and at my

workplace and it made a huge difference. It allowed me to drive in a polluted

major city when i went for doctor visits. With mcs they say to concentrate on

having a clean room with as few things as possible in it as we do most of our

healing at night.

One thing to think about-I bought an Austin and spent tons of money only to find

that the machine itself was offgassing something chemical and awful! I had to

return it.

If you find something that works for chemicals and does not smell, please let me

know!

The same thing happened to me. I bought one, can't remember the brand now, and

it smelled awful of plastic and machinery. It off-gassed a terrible odor and

contaminated the room so I couldn't be in it for 3 weeks. They wouldn't take it

back, so I'm stuck with it. I think I will run it for several weeks outside or

in a room that doesn't matter to off-gas it completely so I can eventually use

it. I am off-gassing a dehumidifier now in a room where I don't stay and

hopefully it will finally quit smelling too.

I just looked these up but don't see the IQ. The Health Mate Jr. looks

like a nice unit and price. I find I have problems in the evening when the

fireplaces are on. We don't have one and I don't really smell it unless I go

outside but I think it's bothering me because I begin to get stuffy at

night, headaches and sneezing a lot. This only happens in the fall and winter

months. I also can't find the size of the units but Newark, DE isn't too far

for me to travel to.

This looks good but I can't tell what the size is like. How often do you

have to change the filter?

Thanks, Sue

How is it possible to use this in your car? The ones I saw all looked

rather large and not portable. Did I miss something? Thanks, Sue I am well

at home but would like a unit for our bedroom. During the fall and winter I

am bothered by fireplace odors from the neighbors.

i have a small el foust car air filter, it plugs into the cigarette

lighter outlet i think.

another thing to look at in deciding on a brand is do they test

independently or do they self test, and do they have the whole assembled

unit tested or do they test just the filter not inside the unit...
