Vote Scheduled for Wednesday, March 23rd

Representative Fred Brown laid out HB 1013 on March 16th, 2011 before the

Texas House Public Health Committee at the State Capitol.

may listen to Dr. Hotze’s remarks using the link below. His testimony begins

at 1:49.

Larry Likover, M.D. and Gus Kotsanis, M.D., also testified before the

committee.

The Public Health Committee is scheduled to vote on HB 1013 when they

reconvene next Wednesday, March 23rd.

HB 1013 would require transparency of the actions of the Texas Medical

Board (TMB). Anonymous and confidential complaints would be eliminated. The

TMB would be required to adopt the same transparent complaint process as used

by the State Bar, Texas Dental Board and the Texas Ethics Commission.

Currently, anonymous and confidential complaints are allowed where physicians

do not know the identity of their accuser.

To date, 60 state representatives have signed on as sponsors of this bill

compared with 23 last session. Our goal is to reach 80 co-authors.

You can visit the website of Texans for Patients’ and Physicians’ Rights

at _www.txppr.org_ (http://www.txppr.org/) to review the synopsis of the

bill and to read the complete version.

Please contact the Public Health Committee and encourage them to vote for

HB 1013 this Wednesday, March 23rd.
