Guest guest
, I suggest you take along some crackers (graham or triscuits, etc), pretzels, or even some high fiber dry cereal (I just found a tasty one - Quaker Oat Bran). These are easily transportable and aren't perishable, just fill up some zip-lock baggies and throw them in your purse. It may be helpful to measure the portions out by the cup so you can keep track of how much you've eaten. The carbs should hold you until your next meal as well as serve as " brain food " during classes. Maybe too, you're not eating enough for breakfast to carry you through the morning if you've got a long stretch between meals. Try adding some fruit with breakfast. The fiber could help you stretch your meal. Ann Marie - who tries to keep these emergency foods handy at all times as well as cut-up veggies > I am getting irritated with myself! Remember, when possible we shouldn't wait until we're starving to eat. Don't be embarrassed to snack on an apple or the things I suggested above. I had it on my list of messages to reply to and just realized I never got around to replying to them! I think you definitely need to eat a bigger breakfast! It is the most important meal, you know! Maybe add some fruit and yogurt in the morning! I agree that you need more protein, but I'm not sure how to get that in the morning, other than to make a smoothie with protein powder. My smoothies always fill me up! Maybe you could have a bagel with light cream cheese or 1 Tbls or peanut butter and jelly! The peanut butter isn't too bad if you only have half the amount and 1 tbls is usually enough for me! I'd definitely take something to snack on in between classes. Maybe take some dry cereal in a ziploc baggie. My favorite snack of choice lately are those little Ritz Bits peanut butter crackers. The serving size is 14 crackers and has 150 calories and 8 g of fat, which isn't too bad and it's pretty satisfying. Or take some fruit along with you to school....an apple, a banana, some grapes, etc. Just some suggestions for you! You definitely need to eat more in the morning and throughout the day. You're trying to get through a better part of the day on about 200-300 calories (I'm not sure how many calories are in coffee, but the granola bar has probably 100 calories at best and the coffee calories are actually empty calories, so they don't even count...LOL)! So, definitely try to eat some more during the day. That way you won't be so famished when you get home! You'll also probably be able to concentrate a lot better in your classes if you have a little more fuel in your body I know it's tough trying to find healthy things to eat on the go, but it can be done! You just have to get a little creative and plan ahead a little bit more. And definitely try to eat something a little more substanial before you leave the house
Guest guest
I meant to tell you that I've changed what I eat for breakfast (my grill is broken!) and thanks to the advice from this group I have a fruit smoothie with protein powder AND ground flax seed (lots of fibre!!). I'm eating a lot less during the morning now too so think it's doing me good. I buy cheap fruit (esp berry type) and open freeze it then just puree it with fruit juice, you could use milk or yoghurt but I can't. If it's too cold to drink then I just pop it in the microwave for about 10-20 secs quick and easy - I've even drunk it in the car on the way to work one morning! *LOL* Eg. this morning I had melon, banana, mango, kiwi and raspberries in apple juice, 1/4cup flax seed and protein powder! Recently over here we've got more rice or corn based snacks, both sweet and savoury and they just don't have the fat or sugar - if you've got those kinda things then they're good to snack on too.
