Guest guest
Most definitely invest in a good water filter for sprouting soaking and rinsing, but more importantly for your general safe water consumption. I live in Brooklyn, NY, with the supposed greatest tasting municipal water around, but I'll be damned if I'll drink straight from the tap w/ all the stuff that's in it. Seriously consider a filter if you don't have one. Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE The water is what my current test is about...Melody suggested water yesterday, so I switched to bottled spring water. Guest guest
I have often found that, when I **just can't** figure something out that it turns out to be what should have been the most obvious solution...too easy...sometimes recognized by some completely inexperienced person. I hope I don't end up embarrassing myself. And no, I don't stop rinsing after the 3rd day. Dona
Guest guest
Dona, I have every confidence that you're going to figure this out. As you can see, we are all trying to be helpful. I think the Easy Sprout is great. I just gave two to my son, along with some seeds, to get him started. ew Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE I have often found that, when I **just can't** figure something out that it turns out to be what should have been the most obvious solution...too easy...sometimes recognized by some completely inexperienced person. Guest guest
 You have driven around Orlando to know about love bugs. They even have special free car washes on the tollway to wash the love bugs off cars. And they are needed. Don't have them here where we are but we fight them when we go over to Orlando and back. Usually get them just out of Orlando. I think of the Palmetto bugs as flying roaches. We get one or usually 2 in the house in a year and I squeell and Dave gets them out of here. Have lizards running all over outside too. For bugs I guess. We do breakdown and once or twice a year spray for bugs. We find dead ones every once in a while but never see them running around in here. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 4:56 PM Subject: Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE  Omg, how amazing. I remember my dad taking me to my first visit at Weeki Watchi with the mermaids. And Disney World (which I've been back countless times), And I'll NEVER forget the first time a Palmetto bug landed on my arm as I was opening my dad's car door. I looked at him and said 'you live with flying waterbugs?? " And don't get me started on the Love Bugs. lol Melody > > > I will NEVER forget the first time I visited my parents after they moved to New Port Richey Florida. I went to the sink to get a glass of water. It was not drinkable. I said 'what the H? " My mother said " Oh, go to the fridge, we use bottled water, you can't drink this tap water " . > > > > I remember saying 'You can't drink the water?? " why not? Guest guest
We dont have that problem here. Most water (I usually get water when I eat out too) is fine. I live in a mobile home park though and the pipes are maintained by the park and I don't trust the water or the pipes. They should have been replaced years ago. We also have a filter on the outside pipe before it comes in and it probably is as old as the mobile hom is. Not good news. I probably need to call a plumber and have it removed and maybe even get a new one put on but then need to know how to change the filters in it.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 1:59 PM Subject: Re: Sprouts Turn Brown UPDATE  A lot of towns in Florida have water really high in sulpher and iron-yuck! I take tons of water with me when I go visit family down there-can't stand any of the water in the state. My mom's tap water will CHOKE you with the smell of chlorine! > > > > > > You know now that I think about it, I had a harder time with my sprouts > > > when at my Mother in Love's house. Guest guest
It tastes pretty good in this area of So FL. It is just tht I live in a mobile home park and it is not city pipes but private pipes. They should have been replaced years ago. They probably aren't up to code. And we have a filter outside but it is so old that we can't get into it. Probably have to cut it off and forget it unless we put in another one and this one wasn't big enough. Thinking of putting a new meter to measure water going to plants as it is the sewage that is expensive so we need to get the sewage level down. Right now all the water is on sewer and a charge. Speaking of sewage, when the park is full in winter, we get gas up the sewage line but no problem now when the park system is not overloaded. We have biggest problem when the RV's are in the camping section of the park. There is a separate mobile home section. There are French Canadians all over in the winter. In the summer, there is a very small contingent of people, maybe 50 houses. There are more like 150 in the winter that are occupied as well as the RV people.
