Dear Mrs. kramer:

Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to a public

healthcare option in healthcare reform legislation. I am pleased that you took

the

time to write to me on an important issue facing our country, and I

welcome this opportunity to explain my views.

As you know, President Obama signed two health reform bills into law; the

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law No. 111-148), and

the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act (Public Law No. 111-152).

These pieces of legislation will reduce the deficit by $143 billion over the

first 10 years and by as much as $1.3 trillion over the second 10 years.

A public option was not included in the final legislation. Instead, the

bill requires the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to create two

national plans, one of which must be a non-profit. While this solution is not

the

same as a public option, it will provide additional coverage choices to

people purchasing insurance.

I supported the health reform legislation because I believe it will lower

premium costs, increase access to health insurance, and provide new

consumer protections from insurance company abuses. It does all this in a

fiscally responsible way, reducing the deficit and extending the solvency of

the

Medicare Trust Fund.

Please know that as this legislation is implemented over the next few

years, I will keep your comments in mind while I work to make sure that this

legislation improves the healthcare system in California.

Again, thank you for writing. If you have any further questions or

comments, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202)

224-3841. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein

United States Senator

Dear Senator Feinstein,

Thank you for your reply. May I ask who wrote this response letter on your

behalf? Apparently, neither they nor you actually read my letter to you.

Contrary to the reply received from your office, I did not " express [my]

opposition to a public healthcare option in healthcare reform legislation. "

I expressed my opposition to healthcare reform legislation which does not

include a public option.

My feeling is that without adding competition for the insurance industry

to the equation, we are simply handing over trillions of our hard earned

tax dollars to the insurance industry; while giving them even greater

monopoly control of our economy and the future of our physical and financial

health as a nation.

My feeling is that we are adding 30 million more people to an already

broken and insurance industry controlled system - with even the first

amendment invasive intent to penalize those private citizens who refuse to buy

insurance from the private sector monopoly of the insurance industry.

Sadly, this response letter from your office appears to be a clear

illustration that our elected officials have not listened a word their

constituents have said over the matter.

Sincerely,

Sharon Kramer
