Guest guest
> is also on the GFCF diet, I see a change in her bowles, but she seems very > hungry all the time. I got the school to provide the diet for lunch. I don't know if this is applicable, but when I was going GF I ended up feeling hungry all the time because I wasn't really getting enough carbs -- I was loading on protein and fats and low-carb veggies, because that's what I could eat, but up until that time most of the carbs I had were breads and pasta and such. Once I figured this out and started eating more rice and potatoes I felt a lot better. There are a bunch of other non-gluten bearing grains out there, but they're generally hard to get unless you go to a really upscale grocery store, go to a food coop (which are wonderful things, I think) or get them via mail order. There was (four years ago, when I lived there) a food coop in northern virginia -- arlington or alexandria, I think, that was pretty good. Guest guest
We've only lived in La Mesa for about ten weeks... before that we lived in Indiana. I wasn't at the Autism 2000 conference, we are still in the process of trying to get services established, etc... It's going to be a long process, I think. I feel so guilty complaining about this, but Asia is doing so well that most people (even professionals if they didn't know her back when things were really bad) do not realize she's autistic. I am ever so grateful for this, at the same time it's stressful because she still has some behaviors that need to be addressed. Indiana had nothing in the way of ABA, which is what we use. So I had to act as lead and only ABA therapist, while her outstanding slp helped me create the goals, etc... I *know* some people in CA get ABA services, so I am trying to figure out how on earth to get them for Asia because with a 5 year old with adhd and a 12 week old baby, I am beyond exhausted and could really use a therapist or two to spot me. Ack, sorry didn't mran to ramble! Back on track, I'd love to meet up with you sometime! Maggie <<<I didn't know you were in La Mesa, Maggie! We're up by Escondido! We go in to San Diego quite a bit. We should meet sometime. I didn't even hear about the walk. I wish I had. I was just at the Autism 2000 Educating Parents and Professionals in Penasquitos last weekend. Were you there by any chance? na>>> __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Welcome to the group Litha!! MISSYSAHM to some special kids!!! All kid's are gifted; some just open their packagesearlier than others.-- Carr Introduction Hello... my name is Litha. I have a 12 year old son that is Autistic. His official diagnosis is Autism with a Severe Level of Mental Retardation, Communication Disorder, PICA, and Seizure Disorder (he hasn't had a seizure in a while though). If you would like to read more about him you can go to http://autism.lithasworld.com/ Thank you, Litha
Guest guest
Hi Litha, Thank you for telling me what PECS means. I think they tried that with Marty years ago, and he just threw the cards at them. haha. Yes, I think that is wonderful that your son can stay at the school. We didn't have anything like that for my son. I would have sent him if there had been one. It was hell for our family and it is a miracle he wasn't killed. I used to have to tie him up with a rope. I know it sounds bad, but he ran all over the place and had no idea what was dangerous and what wasn't. In fact I think he headed for the danger, like there was a magnet on him or something. Yes, I know about fighting for services, did that for a long time too, about wore myself out. When my son was in school they had just started the disabilities act, so he was supposed to get a publically funded education. So the school district had to give him a program, and they tried their best at the time. Although it was pretty frustrating. Now, we have a really good thing here in Oregon. They used to have what they called a "wait list" for services for these folks. Well there was a couple with a disabled daughter I think, who realized it was a scam, that there was no such thing, and there were never going to be any services for these people and their families, so they sued the state, and they won! Marty was a part of that class action suit. So starting next month we are going to get more funding than we ever have before to take care of Marty's needs at home. I am not going to believe it until I see it though! The people who sued the state were named Slaney I think, if anybody wants to look it up. Very interesting case. You said you had two little ones, that is wonderful! I take care of my granddaughter who is 7 now, Sierra, and her brother who is 4 now, , and will soon have a new baby to care for, as my daughter has to go back to work some time in September. I love little kids, and have in home help with all of Marty's care, and he isn't crazy anymore or we couldn't do it. I think that must have been a miracle. It is fun talking to you, wow Indiana, that is a long ways from us in Oregon. Carolyn Introduction Hello... my name is Litha. I have a 12 year old son that is Autistic. Guest guest
Welcome, Darla! No doubt the denial of membership was just an accident. On my groups, I have accidentally hit the " decline " button when I meant to hit accept, so that is likely all that happened. Anyway, you found us and glad you did! May I suggest using either GSE (grapefruits seed extract) or hydrogen peroxide to wash your fruits instead of bleach? I personally wouldn't want bleach anywhere near my food. GSE is wonderful as a veggie wash or soak-baking soda also makes a good " scrub " for harder things like pumpkins, melons, etc. Good luck with your ventures! > > Darla, Welcome, > Question for you. Could you use food grade hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach? The amount of bleach that the produce would absorb and get into you body, frightens me. > Hopefully you can have your own garden. > ew > > Introduction > > Hello, > Thanks for letting me into the group! I was told initially that I was denied entry so I'm glad someone changed their minds. > I just moved to Dakar, Senegal. We'd been in Stuttgart, Germany for the past 3.5 years on an American military base. Now we are working at the American embassy here. We've been here for 4 weeks now. We found the produce here to be fabulous, for the time being, except that we have to soak it all in a bleach solution before we eat it. I plan to have a square foot garden and an indoor micro garden once we move into our permanent quarters. For now I have been experimenting with the lentils available at the Lebanese grocery store. I have been putting them in a red Solo cup and draining them in a colander. I am not very good at remembering to rinse them often enough but I guess once I get into the rhythm of things I'll do better. Oh, and we have to use water from the distiller machine so It's not quite the same as running the tap water in the sink. So there you have it. Once I get my supplies I have in my house hold good and get going on this project I'll probably have lots of questions! > Thanks, > Darla > > > > >
Guest guest
Food grade hydrogen peroxide? I don't know. I'm not sure where to get it or what it's called. One of the reasons we can't drink the water is because they use so much bleach! That's one of the main reasons I want to grow my own gardens, so I don't have to eat/bleach their produce. Another suggestion I've had is to soak them in vinegar. Or I could shop at the French market where everything is imported from France, costs 200% more and looks half dead. Guest guest
Oh how exciting to have someone from Senegal. You must tell us about the produce. What veggies are you able to get? What sprouting seeds do you have (if any I mean, lol). Glad to have you aboard. Melody
