Guest guest
Hi, I am a beginner and have never sprouted anything myself. I would like to try sprouting broccoli, as I have heard that broccoli spouts are very healthy. Where can I buy seeds for sprouting? At a local garden place or store? Do I need a simple sprouter? Where can I get a simple sprouter? Can I make my own simple sprouter? Thanks, Bob
Guest guest
Bob, You came to the right place. The best place to buy seeds is on line. Most of us use sproutpeople.org. Also go to their site to see all kinds of great information about how to, including many videos. Depending on where you live, you might find seeds in health foods stores or if you live near a Whole Foods Market, they have a bulk section where seeds can be found. Be careful of what you buy. There is a health food store near me that is dark and dirty. I won't go in there. Certainly not buy there. The majority of us buy only organically grow seeds, but this a preference. You can grow sprouts very simply in a quart wide mouth mason jar with a piece of cheese cloth or old nylon held on with a rubber band. Broccoli sprouts are extremely healthy, but so are all sprouts in different degrees. Most seed, but not all seeds should be soaked from 8 to 12 hours in the beginning. Go to www.sproutpeople.org for lots of great information about soaking, growing and the nutritional benefits of each sprout. And keep asking questions We are here to help. ew Questions from a beginner about sprouting broccoli Hi, I am a beginner and have never sprouted anything myself. All of their seeds are organic except for a few that they cannot get from a certifed organic growers, but the seeds as as good as organic. > ew > > Re: Questions from a beginner about sprouting broccoli > > Thanks Ernest, > > Do you use regular organic broccoli garden seeds for sprouting, or do > you use some kind of special sprouting seeds? > > Thanks, > > >
Guest guest
Thanks Carolyn. Bob > > I have sure learned a lot, Bob, in just a few weeks. > >  There is a 3 or 4 seed mix for sprouting that is really good.  There is alfalfa, radish, broccoli and clover for the 4 seed mix. The radish is a mild radish taste and I could tell that one and I liked it. The clover has a slightly sweet flavor. The alfalfa I sprout separately as it goes nice on salad and on sandwiches. Actually I found out that this 4 seed mix tastes really good. There are several places I have looked. Sproutpeople, Handy Pantry and I did find some things at the Whole Food Market. Smaller amounts are available there. They can be sprouted in a mason jar with a lid with holes (like stockings or nylon or mesh of some kind.  Someone went to one of the General Dollar stores and found 3 flyswatters for $1.99 and she cut them for lid liners and put them in and they work well. I think that was Melody. Some sprouters are in tiers so you can grow different types at the same time and the one that is better is green. > I have a Vitorio that is white. I have to be sure it drains well when I rinse the crop but it works okay. I found some on Amazon and they have other companies who sell through there.  Best thing is to make sure they are organic and intended for human consumption andnot for planting unless you plan to plant them instead of just sprouting them to eat the sprouts. You are going to like this, I think. You will like those other sprouts as well. Variety will bring you different vitamins and minerals. Good luck. > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > From: insecbob insecbob@... > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Wednesday, April 4, 2012 7:57 AM > Subject: Questions from a beginner about sprouting broccoli > > >  > Hi, > > I am a beginner and have never sprouted anything myself.
