[] OT Asthma from Mold I have come down with a cold and now have bronchitis. It is making my asthma out of control. THIS ASTHMA that I DID NOT have until I got sick from mold. How many others got asthma from being exsposed to mold? You can DIE from an asthma attack. I have come close. Janet

Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear that you're ill. I had asthma-like symptoms when I worked in water damaged buildings. I'd never before in my life had these symptoms prior to working in these buildings. On 'bad' days I'd begin coughing and be unable to stop. Sometimes, I'd cough so hard that I'd throw up. My chest felt so tight, like an elephant was sitting on it. It felt like I couldn't breathe. After a time, I'd get this reaction not only from the interior of water damaged buildings, but also from breathing cold air, breathing someones strong perfume or cologne, or simply walking past the door of Bath & Body Works stores. (There were many, many other symptoms as well, but I'm just addressing the asthma symptoms here.) It's been a couple of years since I've had such an attack. What have I done? 1) Strictly avoid water damaged buildings. I can't say enough about this one! 2) Cholestyramine 4 times per day per Shoemaker's protocol. 3) VIP per Shoemaker's protocol. It's my belief that this helped with my developing chemical sensitivities. I no longer react to (cough) perfumes, colognes, etc. Just to test it out, I actually went into a Bath & Body Works store for over 4 minutes. Nothing! No coughing, no headache. Nothing. If I accidentally wander into a water damaged building, my chest still sometimes feels tight and I sometimes get a terrible headache. If I see any damage or feel any symptoms, I leave immediately, and 'knock on wood', haven't had a relapse of the asthma-like symptoms. I hope this information is helpful to you. If you can possible read Dr Shoemaker's new book, Surviving Mold, it contains a lot of good information and my be of further assistance.
