Guest guest
The great thing about Tempeh is that it's whole fermented soybeans (with other good things too). I doesn't impact my blood sugar and it's got good protein. And it's delicious on sprout salads. Melody P.S. Never thought about mixing it with other things. Just might do that. Thanks much > > > > That was very informative. You make your own, I suppose. they made it sound easy but I'd be afraid I'd poison myself. It sounds interesting. I wish I could go someplace like whole foods and try some of it out. I can't seem to add some of my favorites anymore as my yahoo headings or the things at the top are gone now. I am not sure what happened. I don't like when they change to something else as it confuses me. I guess I don't take change as much when I age. > > > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > > > > >  > > > > From: Melody <eliz7212@> > > To: sproutpeople > > Sent: Friday, May 18, 2012 10:30 PM > > Subject: Re: Hi from Wyoming > > > > > >  > > Carolyn: > > > > Go here and you'll learn all about Tempeh. Guest guest
Question is, what does it taste like? My wife hates tofu. ew Re: Tempeh The great thing about Tempeh is that it's whole fermented soybeans (with other good things too). I doesn't impact my blood sugar and it's got good protein. Guest guest
Tastes NOTHING like Tofu which picks up whatever it is cooked with. Tempeh has a nutty, crunchy taste. Guest guest
Here's a video I made some time ago when I made a tempeh salad. Guest guest
 I couldn't find it there, but I found this tempeh stir fry. It just doens't look like meat and all but that looks good there. That is something that I'd like to try just a tiny bit of. And then give it away if I didn't like it. I hate to waste something if I don't like it. I am getting a compost can to put veggies in.   AND MY BEANS I PLANTED OUTSIDE ARE SPROUTING AND I CAN SEE THEM. One seemed to wash up on top though and was sprouted and I just pushed it back down in the potting soil. I could see little bean sprouts around and I think I pushed them down about 2 " . Must have worked their way up. So I can see that there will likely be beans, though don't know how well they will be. Don't know about the corn and squash yet. So excited though seeing them grow. Beans are a white bean that will be staked up.  I DO HAVE MY FIRST STRAWBERRY and it is red and needs to ripen just a little more. That is great, too.   So some things have come up. Strawberries were bare root plants when they arrived. I put them in the refrigerator for several days until I had a planter to plant them in and hadn't expected them to come until Sept. But I am going to have a bunch of strawberries as I have a number already but just the one almost ready to be picked. Our placement in partial shade or all the rain have helped them. Now I am going back to try to find your tempeh salad.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2012 9:43 PM Subject: Re: Tempeh  Here's a video I made some time ago when I made a tempeh salad. Guest guest
Yeah, and think of all the wonderful fermented foods you eat! (or you ate!) - I always think of tempe and other " fungus " related foods similar to fermentation not to mention straight fungus like mushrooms, yum. Fermentation in food processing <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_processing> typically is the conversion of carbohydrates <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbohydrate> to alcohols <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol> and carbon dioxide or organic acids using yeasts <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeast> , bacteria <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacteria> , or a combination thereof, under anaerobic <http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/anaerobic> conditions. Fermentation in simple terms is the chemical conversion of sugars <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar> into ethanol <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol> . The science of fermentation is also known aszymology <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zymology> , or zymurgy. Fermentation usually implies that the action of microorganisms <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microorganisms> is desirable, and the process is used to produce alcoholic beverages such as wine <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine> , beer <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer> , and cider <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cider> . Fermentation is also employed in the leavening <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leavening> of bread <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread> (CO2 produced by yeast activity), and for preservation techniques to produce lactic acid <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactic_acid> in sour <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sour> foods such assauerkraut <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauerkraut> , dry sausages <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salami> , kimchi <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimchi> and yogurt <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogurt> , or vinegar <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar> (acetic acid <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetic_acid> ) for use in pickling <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickling> foods. http://voices.yahoo.com/fungi-food-more-than-just-mushrooms-454007.html Reply-To: <sproutpeople > Date: Saturday, May 19, 2012 7:50 PM To: <sproutpeople > Subject: Re: Tempeh > > > > > > OMG, I've been eating fungus everyday?? > > lol lol lol > > Melody > > >>>> > > > >>>> > > > Tastes NOTHING like Tofu which picks up whatever it is cooked with. >>>> Tempeh has a nutty, crunchy taste. >>>> > > > >>>> > > > Mel >>> > > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> >
Guest guest
the Temeph that I eat doesn't have any garlic in it. When I saute it I use a bit of sesame oil, some fresh garlic and anything else I can throw in there. You only heat it up for a few minutes. It is absolutely heaven on any salad. Melody > > I saw your salad and it looked good and you were so excited about the tempeh. It looks more interesting when it is in smaller pieces. What does it taste like? You said garlic. Did you put garlic in it or does it naturally have some garlic. Guess I am going to have to try it. Your salad did look good. >  > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2012 10:49 PM > Subject: Re: Tempeh > > >  > Hi, sorry, I had it set to private.
