Guest guest
That's my Girl! They are eating my sprouts at breakfast!!!! Well, this morning was quite unusual and FUN. I always bring a ziplock bag of my sprouts and dump them on my breakfast sandwich.Been doing this for years now. I've given away little bags and sunnies and chia and whatever. So recently one of the breakfasters requested I bring her a ziplock bag of sprouts so she could try them on her egg sandwich (this was yesterday, as I know I told you all). She loved them, and I had asked her if she wanted some chia. She said " yeah, I'd like to taste these things before I start to sprout them " . Well!!!!! I had a lightbulb moment. These people have seen my sprouts in bags and sunnies in little trays, and my popcorn sprouts in a little tray... but they have NEVER seen my sprouts growing in their round green SproutGarden Trays. So......along with a little ziplock bag filled with more sprouts and a tiny bag with some chia, I brought along one of my round green trays BURSTING with plump broccoli, alfalfa, clover, radish and fenugreek sprouts. I didn't make a video because I didn't want to invade anyone's privacy. But let me tell you what happened. I'm giving the ziplock bag of sprouts and the teeny bag of chia to one of the ladies and I happened to say " , would you like to say exactly how these were grown, I mean you know how they look now but I want to show you what I grow them in " . She said " oh you brought your sprouting trays here? " I said 'no, just one, with the cover " So I take out the tray (with cover on) and I said 'Now imagine 7 of these all stacked up using no more than 6 inches of counter space " People started coming over (and the waitress) I did like Copperfield when he takes the cover off of a plate and there's a rabbit on the plate. As I take the cover off, I said 'VOILA!!!! You now have sprouts " Well, you should have seen their faces. they had NEVER seen this before. The quantity of sprouts in one tray was amazing. The waitress came over and said 'I want to put some on my sandwich " So I gave her some sprouts right out of the tray. She serves everyone their coffee etc, and she sits down at her little table and adds the sprouts to her sandwich. I never laughed so hard. She starts going " OMG, this is fabulous, why didn't you tell me how fabulous this is " . I said 'Susie, I've been telling you this for years, it's because you have now seen exactly how they grow that you got interested " She then announces " I want sprouts for breakfast every morning " She comes in a few times a week. I said 'would you like to grow your own sprouts? " She said 'oh no, I just want to eat them " With that, everybody burst out laughing, I gave another sprout lecture and some people are actually interested. I have a lot of those little snack ziplock bags. So when I bring some sprouts for me, I'll bring her a little bag too. Small price to pay for all the coffee I get in the morning and all the nice conversation with the waitresses and the other regulars. I'll have all of them sprouting for themselves in no time. I want to get her hooked on sprouts first. And the other lady who I gave the bag of sprouts to yesterday announced: " Do you know that I didn't eat any bread during the day. I didn't have any cravings " I said'See, your sprouts are talking to you " . We all laughed. One little step for sprouts, one giant leap for mankind!!! lol Mel

Guest guest
Maybe you should take in a jar of sprouts next and they might visualize growing sprouts in just a jar and not a big investment. Could share from the jar. If there is a store locally to buy the tops to drain, you could give them the address and let them go. They might see the green sprouter formidable and having too many , but just a Mason jar, they may feel they can do that. Good luck. Keep on sprouting. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, June 4, 2012 11:13 AM Subject: Re: They are eating my sprouts at breakfast!!!!  This is wonderful Melody! Guest guest
A colander does seem more simple but maybe she uses that collander. I use mine. But as long as they can get some sprouts they may eat them. Just wait until they don't want to do without them. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, June 4, 2012 9:31 PM Subject: Re: They are eating my sprouts at breakfast!!!!  Carolyn, That's a good idea (the mason jar). I brought that up as well. I said 'do you have a small colander in your home? " and the gal said " of course " . I then said 'Want me to soak some seeds for you and all you need do is run them under some water every 12 hours and in 5 days you'll have it bursting with sprouts with very little effort on your part'. She said: " nah, I just want to eat them " . So if the ease of using a colander doesn't get them, I don't think using a mason jar, rinsing and draining two times a day is going to get them either. You either like to do stuff or you don't like to do stuff. But I'm stoked that at least some of them might be trying this. And one of the ladies even said " Oh I know why they are green, that's chlorophyll " . I got so excited. rofl. Mel P.S. We went to see Alan's doctor today and I brought this huge ziplock bag of my mixed sprouts and a little bag of chia. Even before he came in, a nurse approached me and said " how are your sprouts doing? " I said 'look at what's in the little bag " . She said 'oh, they are so green, what are they? " I said " Organic Chia " . I gave her some and she was examining them like she had never held a sprout in her hands before. She probably never did. Hey.... I'm trying. lol Melody > > > Well, this morning was quite unusual and FUN. I always bring a ziplock > > bag of my sprouts and dump them on my breakfast sandwich.Been doing this > > for years now. Guest guest
That's what I'm counting on. Eventually I'll say " no more freebies, now it's time to make your own " . Got to get her used to them first. But I really don't mind. They are really little ziplock bags. The taste on an egg sandwich with sliced tomatoes is out of this world. Guest guest
What kind of popcorn shoots do you buy (or seeds)?  I couldn't find any red but dd find yellow  popcorn. What kind of peas? I saw some that were white. Sunflowers were the black oil ones. I was going to buy them and also the Exotic mix which had bags of onion, garlic, and several other tyupes and total was about $37 as the exotics were almost $20. Then I saw a shipping of $15 something. That stopped me there so I'll figure out exactly wht I need first,. Hate to pay that much on shipping.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, June 4, 2012 10:36 PM Subject: Re: They are eating my sprouts at breakfast!!!!  That's what I'm counting on. Guest guest
Carolyn: I completely understand what you mean when it comes to the shipping. I bought regular unpopped popcorn seeds (in a clear jar). I like that because you can see what you get. As a matter of fact I just put up a new batch and it will soak until tonight and then I will put them in my trays (using a soil less medium). As for the peas, I have done Goya dried green peas (not the split oness), they have to be whole dried peas for them to sprout. And I've also used Jack Rabbit (when I didn't have organic peas from Sproutpeople). And the organic peas look and sprout completely different than the peas I got in the supermarket. Can't explain it but they look different. Taste fine when cut from the beginning of the shoot and then of course they grow back. Guest guest
Once again, I do HIGHLY recommend looking for ORGANIC popcorn (most health food stores have it) ALmost ALL corn in the US is genetically modified, and of course that little tidbit isn't labeled. Now Meloday, if you want some REAL fun-grow some japanese popcorn in a container! It is tiny, and easy to grow! > > > > > > A colander does seem more simple but maybe she uses that collander. I use mine. But as long as they can get some sprouts they may eat them. Just wait until they don't want to do without them. > > > > > > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
It is a miniature variety of corn on the cob-each cob grows to about 4-6 inches. I plant them in my " three sisters " container garden. When you harvest and dry them, you can pop the entire ear of corn, or you can scrape of the kernals and sprout them! Good fun. IMAGINE your neighbors when they see you growing popcorn! Here is a link telling more about them, but I know nothing about this seed vendor, I just found the link for info for you. I got my initial seeds from " Seeds of Change " which are sold in a whole foods type store. http://sustainableseedco.com/Japanese-Hulless-Popcorn.html > > > > > > > > > > A colander does seem more simple but maybe she uses that collander. I use mine. But as long as they can get some sprouts they may eat them. Just wait until they don't want to do without them. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Can't do container gardening because I really have no room on my porch. I have two things going right now. My lettuce and some basil in the other container. But I'm happy with my other microgreens and my sprouts. I must say I'm loving the radish seeds I got from ebay. Fabulous yield and so tasty. I add them to my other seeds and the sprouts are divine. And if someone would have told me 30 years ago " Someday Melody you will be typing on a computer, chatting with people all over the world and you will be growing green things in your apartment " . well, I would have burst out laughing. And look at me now!! lol Melody > > > > > > > > > > > > A colander does seem more simple but maybe she uses that collander. I use mine. But as long as they can get some sprouts they may eat them. Just wait until they don't want to do without them. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
