At my house, less than a week. Sometimes the next day, sometimes a

few days later.

Sometimes a negative reaction is because the supplement needs a

precurser or something else for proper absorption. For my son, one of

the most important things I did was figure out WHY a supplement caused

problems.

We would like some feed back on the TV announcement we are planning to use

in April. It doesn't have the word awareness in it. I noticed it but it did

not detract from the film in my opinion. We would love to hear what others

think before we actually show it. If you would please go to jeremygraves.com

and click on the lower right hand corner. It says autism commercial and has a

picture of flowers on it. Thanks in advance to those who take the time to do

this for us.

Cute babies.

Who is the target audience for this commercial? What is the message you are

trying to give them? I personally don't make the connection between healthy,

adorable babies and " autism is treatable " . This looks more like a Gerber

baby food or Dreft laundry detergent commercial than anything remotely

related to the spectrum. Sorry. just my $0.02.

Where is the " 1 in 150 babies born perfectly healthy and developing

typically will succumb to an autism spectrum disorder. They are usually

recoverable (and here maybe add with early diagnosis and early

intervention). Don't wait if you know a baby that may be affected. " ?

Dear Cheryl,

I have no idea about that Stromer link. Never heard of him. When we

showed the clip to our parent's group everyone got teary eyed thinking about

the very normal babies they had and lost. Graves was very attentive when

we talked about autism and picked up on the fact that, for the most part, our

children were normal so that is why he chose the babies. I also think that

his choice of music was really good. The slogan " Autism is Treatable " is the

slogan for our foundation. We will be coming out with magnets soon which will

say that. Television reaches so many more people than magnets. Thanks for

looking at it! Kathy

I saw it and I loved it! I do think that Awareness should probably

be put in, though. You're right, it doesn't detract from the message

but I think it would be more PC to put the correct name because (and

believe me, it'll happen even though it sounds stupid) people will

think April somehow has more autistic children.

It was beautiful, though.

I went to the wrong site because I thought the link at the end of

your e-mail was the link to the site! You have an Stromer link

that keeps coming with all your e-mails and I ended up hearing him

talk about how to wire a light fixture! :)

I liked the commercial. :) I think the music and the

images are precious and grabs your attention. I did

also feel some sorrow as I watched the babies. If you

want most people to freeze and watch the TV, babies in

angel wings will do it.

It sounds like you have an awesome and active parents

group ...

I hope you get a great response.

Overall, I think the commercial is very nice with interesting images.

However, I found myself distracted between the moving flowers and the images of

the babies and the words that I wanted to look at. I watched it three times

and found that my eyes kept being drawn to the flowers as they moved. (Maybe

I'm in a stimmy sort of mood tonight?) Perhaps muting the flowers a bit and

enlarging the square with the baby in it would ensure that everyone's eyes

went where you wanted them to. I do like the Autism is Treatable slogan.

Kathy,

I just connected to the site and Sidd came running downstairs. He kept playing

singing " its a new day " , Sidd corrected him " you are " . We three have been

dancing to the song. Hope this makes you smile. love Kavita

Kathy,

I tried to watch it using the ³Flash Video Player² but it seems to be mixed

up... I got the Grindstone Island video instead. I clicked the Grindstone

Island one thinking maybe the two videos were switched around, but still got

the Grindstone Island video.

I¹ll try again in a couple of days!

The word awareness will be added. If you view it on a TV screen there are no

distractions. When it is small it is all crushed in together and was

distracting to me also! Thanks for you input. Kathy

  • 2 years later...

My two bedrooms smelled moldy. The mold came from the outside unfinished wood

that was getting splashback from the deck. The unfinished moldy wood was removed

& replaced with painted plywood. Over that went Tyvek, furring strips & then

metal. Four feet of the bottom of the interior gypsum board was removed along

with the insulation....plus the windowsills. Only one windowsill was moldy- the

window track had a hole in it. I still get a very faint smell of mold. If you

walk into the closed rooms mostly what you smell is an old wood smell. (Plywood

floors that had carpet on it - it smells like my living room floor did before I

had it sanded & oiled etc.) If I leave the windows opened in the master bedroom

I smell mold outside (I guess because I'm in fresh air outside without the

obstruction of funky floor smell.) At first I thought the mold was outside -

mold from my deck but I don't smell it outside if I close the windows & sliding

glass door. The smell is stronger when the sun hits the room. Very faint though.

Today the contractor made a cut in an unaffected wall for the electrician. I

decided, since I'm replacing the wall with formaldehyde-free plywood, that he

might as well remove a plywood-sized portion while he was at it. I walked in &

smelled mold yet there was no mold in that wall. WHAT THE HECK !

I'd like to take down the barriers & heat it this winter or it will GET moldy if

it isn't ( or get worse if it is) but I won't do it until I'm positive.

One thought I had is that the gypsum board has retained the odor - just like it

would retain the odor of a scented plug-in. Another thought I have is that the

sun is hitting the funky plywood floor brings out a smell yet there was no mold

on the floor to begin with. Any thoughts on my thoughts?

The contractor's wife washed down all the walls with a strong solution of borax

& will be doing the floor tomorrow.

, my house smelled when I opened the windows too. It's so discouraging bec

you'd like to get fresh air. There were at least two culprits. In one area it

was right outside, I had algae and mold thickly on concrete steps in an area

that the wind and sun couldn't get to and the odor was just terrible. That was

an easy one. I killed that with some garden product and pressure washer that

has kept it away for a year so far. The other was that I discovered that the

window frames themselves were old and via sweating, age and condensation were

rotting and the window frame itself was smelly. I couldn't afford to replace

window and also frame bec the house has so many windows so I kept them closed

and put that insulating shrink wrap plastic over them that they sell for

winterizing. Fine for winter but have to go outside if I want some outdoor air

in summer. I really think that that " old house smell " that people notice and I

used to call it that is really rotting wood, in this case around my windows bec

if I put nose right up to it, that is what I smell in concentrated form, an " old

house smell " but just stronger than anywhere else. I had some cousins here from

CA about two summers ago and when they came in, one said immediately, " oh I love

that old house smell! " It smells a little like cigars to me. I used to like it

to until I realized its probably something rotting. I almost died when she said

that. I had worked so hard on the house. I know I smelled it but I have been

smelling it here since I was a little girl coming over to see my aunt, she was

second owner and it was built in 1930's so even as a kid it had old house smell.

Now I think of it as an unhealthy smell but not toxic mold smell.

Hi there , I think plywood can sometimes smell funky like mold, especially

when it's had old carpet on it. I had a house that had old carpet and when I

tore the carpet up, the plywood smelled weird to me. Feintly like mold. I think

that could be all that's going on.

Is there any exterior wall left in the room that hasn't been explored for mold

in the build cavities? Is your floor over a crawl space or basement or--? Have

you been able to see into whatever is under it? I think so but I don't remember

exactly.

Sounds like you are making good progress. I think it's extremely important you

get the space finished and heated, too.

Hi AN " Faintly like mold you say " . Yep that's what I'm getting. Maybe it IS

the floor. The top half of wall (the drywall) is still there. I ripped out a

whole closet of drywall & straight out to the exterior because I still smelled

mold & there was no mold ! My contactor keeps laughing at my disappointment when

I DON'T find mold after ripping out perfectly fine pieces of my house.

Yes, there's some old exterior left that was sniffed real good :-) Anyhoo it

doesn't smell outside unless the B/R windows are opened & the inside smell wafts

out. The crawl smells BETTER. The contractor & his wife kept saying it's my

imagination but then yesterday at that certain time of day she got the faint

whiff for a few seconds too.

You must be the one I remember from the winter posting about adding vents. My

house (822 sf) has 3 HUGE vents that seem to LET IN outside moisture in the

winter NOT let it out. Not sure what to do there. I never looked up there.

Should I at least cover the tops of the walls if they're opened ? I really

should go up there myself but I'm nervous. It requires a tall ladder & you get

in through the huge vent outside. I didn't have a shower for afterwards until

recently either. Summer here is extremely dry but winter is total sog.

> >

> > Thanks Barb. Yes it does have old house smell which overides the mold smell.

Every now & then though I get a faint whiff of mold. I smell it more outside of

the room because there's no old house smell outside to overide the mold smell. I

left the windows closed all day & didn't smell mold when I was outside but I can

bet I would have if I opened the bedroom windows & it wafted out of the room.

Sigh.
