Guest guest
Thanks for posting this paper. You can also read more about mycobacterium and Mycobacterium avium complex at http://www.thoracic.org/statements/resources/mtpi/nontuberculous-mycobacterial-d\ iseases.pdf Infections are on the increase worldwide in immunocompetent individuals. These are potentially dangerous human pathogens. For example the species leprosy, ulcerans and marinum are know to produce the highly toxic compound, mycolactone. Mycolactone causes severe ulcerations of the skin and erosion of muscle. We do not hear too much about Leprosy anymore, but ulcerans is causing serious problems in tropical Africa and other tropical places in the world. Also, these three species are associated with the development of neurofibromatosis and skin pigmented lesions.
