Guest guest
Kihun - People report GREAT results with the Far Infrared saunas. The kind that Dr. Staninger sells are supposed to be the best, achieving deeper penetration. These are great for full body detoxification. I only have the pad but may invest in the sauna (I think they are quite expensive, though) Bessie > > I've been meaning to either join a gym or visit one of those Korean > spa/sauna places in the burbs (yes, they're legit, not what you're > thinking) on a regular basis to cook myself in a dry-heat sauna to get > these critters to come out and shrivel up to their doom... but I have > not. > > Well, wishing I had a sauna at home w/o paying $2000 for a small unit > (don't have the space in my condo anyway), I googled " portable sauna " > and came upon this: > > http://www.overstocksaunas.com/catalog_order.asp?t=FIRPORTABLE > > It looks clumsy but hey if it gets the job done, I'm all for it. Guest guest
I have a vision of kihun shrinking away in that like the weight loss ones of the 1950's hehe. The steam room at my gym has been an incredible help - this looks like it would too - and reasonably priced. I wouldn't expect it to last to long though. b > > > > I've been meaning to either join a gym or visit one of those Korean > > spa/sauna places in the burbs (yes, they're legit, not what you're > > thinking) on a regular basis to cook myself in a dry-heat sauna to > get > > these critters to come out and shrivel up to their doom... but I > have > > not. > > > > Well, wishing I had a sauna at home w/o paying $2000 for a small > unit > > (don't have the space in my condo anyway), I googled " portable > sauna " > > and came upon this: > > > > http://www.overstocksaunas.com/catalog_order.asp?t=FIRPORTABLE > > > > It looks clumsy but hey if it gets the job done, I'm all for it. > Any > > opinions? Guest guest
I think the ones you linked to might be available only in Canada? Anyway, here's a link to those Staninger touts. Check out the portable that looks like a sleeping bag: http://www.sunlightsaunas.com/products.htm > > > > I've been meaning to either join a gym or visit one of those Korean > > spa/sauna places in the burbs (yes, they're legit, not what you're > > thinking) on a regular basis to cook myself in a dry-heat sauna to > get > > these critters to come out and shrivel up to their doom... but I > have > > not. > > > > Well, wishing I had a sauna at home w/o paying $2000 for a > small > unit > > (don't have the space in my condo anyway), I googled " portable > sauna " > > and came upon this: > > > > http://www.overstoc ksaunas.com/ catalog_order. asp?t=FIRPORTABL E > > > > It looks clumsy but hey if it gets the job done, I'm all for it. > Any > > opinions? Guest guest
We need to hear from Sue, she bought one on craigslist. Guest guest
And I did reply a few minutes ago, but it hasn't shown up yet...if it's lost in land, will post again. Guest guest
Tommy - I got mine from Dr. Staninger, and it was around $300 if I recall. It uses actual diamonds and not zirconia as most do; that is supposed to make a difference...but what do I know. Bessie > > > > > > I've been meaning to either join a gym or visit one of those Korean > > > spa/sauna places in the burbs (yes, they're legit, not what you're > > > thinking) on a regular basis to cook myself in a dry-heat sauna to > > get > > > these critters to come out and shrivel up to their doom... but I > > have > > > not. > > > > > > Well, wishing I had a sauna at home w/o paying $2000 for a small > > unit > > > (don't have the space in my condo anyway), I googled " portable > > sauna " > > > and came upon this: > > > > > > http://www.overstoc ksaunas.com/ catalog_order. asp?t=FIRPORTABL E > > > > > > It looks clumsy but hey if it gets the job done, I'm all for it. > > Any > > > opinions? Guest guest
Hmmm...I don't think those are the ones that Dr. Staninger recommends. The company that makes them is Integrated Health Systems - I beleive she has an interest in that company. I tried to find a website for it but was unsuccessful. You can try calling her number (posted on her website). Guest guest
An important consideration for the model you mention, JS, is that the heaters are only along the back. You'd have to be a contortionist to expose the front of your body. Look for one with heaters also in the front so you can sit on the bench & lean forward to treat your face, etc, directly. Been using a far infrared (FIR) sauna for 3 months now & I'm hooked. Does me a world of good. Being unsure whether it would work for the mites, didn't want to spring for a new one. Found one secondhand on craigslist for $1500 (runs $5000 new). It's a 1-2 person model from Cedrus. My son became interested for the detox & relaxation benefits & the notes below are from emails I sent to him while he researched. Found a triple size HealthMate for him locally for $750 & the fellow delivered it for no charge. He & his wife are very happy with theirs. Looked into the " envelope " models with the chair inside & figured they wouldn't heat up enough. You couldn't sit on a metal chair inside if they did. Figured they were plastic-based & didn't want plastic outgassing to add to my toxin load. Routinely see them secondhand for $50-100. This is the model I have http://www.cedrussauna.com/pro2000.htm The " window " that you can't see in the pics is at the top of the door & slides up into the door frame. A hole in the window allows it to be manipulated & gives further permanent airflow. There's also a vent in the ceiling that you control by sliding open or closed. The heaters are in the back along the bench (2), either side of the door & one sideways under the bench. On the inside wall opposite the exterior controls is a readout panel for temp & time left. The Cedrus is made in the US in southern California. I think the cedar is more hygienic – doesn't support bacteria or fungus. Don't believe the claims any of these manufacturers make – consider it advertising babble. Important to find one with panels on at least front & back, so you can expose various parts of your body. Sources say the closer you are to the infrared source the more effective it is. Where there's glass there can't be a heater – so the more glass, the less effective. Look into the warranties & how long they've been in business. Search out reviews independent of sales sites. Make sure they're UL or CE (Canadian equivalent) listed for safety reasons. Consider it a major appliance. Look at what any warranty involves, Do you have to ship the whole thing back for service? Most take more than the 12 volts in a typical outlet & you'll need to figure the wiring in the room where you'll use it & install a different outlet to accommodate. Think the ceramic heaters may be better than the straight rod heaters. Many now use a woven fabric heater – some are laminated inside plastic panels & have reviews about the panels delaminating & plastic smells. The fabric technology is coming out of Korea & Japan & the best of these saunas literally cover the walls with them to maximize the infrared. Most still use additional ceramic heaters for raising the temp. Some do not raise the temp enough to induce sweating – minimum 120 & best adjustable up to 150 or more. For example, at 120 I start sweating in 20 minutes. At 130 I sweat in 5 & at 140 I sweat immediately. You want control panels for time & temp with a readout you can easily see (one outside & one inside) & a remote. Felt more confident with the manufacturers that said no or minimal EMF – but how would I know if it were true? The radio/cd players seem to all be ones made for cars. Wouldn't bother with a tv or phone bit. If you want a tv, roll one where you can see it through the glass & take your cordless phone in with you. Forget reading in the sauna. You'll just drip on the pages. Will post the info on Dr. Staninger's FIR recommendations next. Best wishes, Sue I've been meaning to either join a gym or visit one of those Korean spa/sauna places in the burbs (yes, they're legit, not what you're thinking) on a regular basis to cook myself in a dry-heat sauna to get these critters to come out and shrivel up to their doom... but I have not. Well, wishing I had a sauna at home w/o paying $2000 for a small unit (don't have the space in my condo anyway), I googled " portable sauna " and came upon this: http://www.overstoc ksaunas.com/ catalog_order. asp?t=FIRPORTABL E It looks clumsy but hey if it gets the job done, I'm all for it. Any opinions? How effective could these things be? How hot will they be? I'd sit inside w/o poking my head or hands out (I think you can close them up completely). Guest guest
I use a near infrared light sauna and love how it feels. Its not comfortable.. you sit on a hard stool and rotate, but it feels so good. I have not sauna-ed often and would like to try a regime of 20 minutes a day maybe 5 days a week and see how it goes but, I have to leave it here, esp since it is made of unfnished wood. My sauna is made by Country Ray saunas and no glues.. just poplar wood and the metals used to encase and hold the lights.. the emfs drops off at about less than a foot from the lights. I am looking into this: http://infraredsaunaportable.com/ Its less than half the price of the country ray obviously without the cabinet.. I like the idea of using it in a tub because the sweat can be washed away.. not sure about toxicity of the tub area if using a low VOC shower curtain.. it can be taken down I would think.. not sure. Calling to ask questions after we move. They claim to be chemically aware.. clean of some things. .not sure all things.. not sure if they use glue or if one can be made without glue if so.. The canvas is unfinished.. not sure has formaldehyde or any other chemical.. ?? Guest guest
I bet most of us sweat less than we did before mold illness. I used to sweat more than some, now hardly at all. I have to do the daily baths. It's hard for me b/c baths irritate my skin with ezema. It's under control, but hard to find a lotion I can tolerate now. Was using shea butter, sometimes plain olive oil feels better. Kathy From: sallyb <mustangsally2254@...> Subject: Re: [] Re: portable saunas Date: Saturday, August 21, 2010, 8:46 PM Thanks...I already do Epsom-salt baths every day, as hot as I can tolerate. I used to sweat a lot; since I've become so ill, I don't sweat. Weird. I'll try adding baking soda to my bath. I also swear by charcoal body wash/soap. It has done wonders for strange skin growths I had on my feet that my traditional doctor predicted would require surgery. So...one surgery averted!
Guest guest
I swear by baths too. I don;t have access to saunas so I bathe in either salts or hydrogen peroxide. Before everyone gets all shocked over the peroxide can I just say that it is an amazing product that can be used safely for all kinds of things, like plant fertilizer! I'm devoted-look at this site for more info http://www.using-hydrogen-peroxide.com/ > > Thanks...I already do Epsom-salt baths every day, as hot as I can tolerate. I > used to sweat a lot; since I've become so ill, I don't sweat. Weird. I'll try > adding baking soda to my bath. I also swear by charcoal body wash/soap. It has > done wonders for strange skin growths I had on my feet that my traditional > doctor predicted would require surgery. So...one surgery averted!  >
