Guest guest
Do you have a Whole Foods Store in your area? I have not eaten sugar, dairy or gluten for many years and still enjoy cooking and eating many foods. Go to the organic/gluten free sections and there are many choices. The bread I now eat is made of rice and rice bran and is very good. Eating and cooking does not have to be boring, there are many excellent healthy foods available! > > Hello, All...I have developed severe reactions to foods I've always eaten before. I can't tolerate dairy, sugar, salt, gluten, or any preservatives, it seems. Trying to find food I can eat, but the cookbooks I find for gluten-free folks don't address the preservative dangers. Any suggestions? About the only foods I seem to be able to trust completely are potatoes and broccoli. Getting BORED with my diet--obviously. What I wouldn't give for a trip to Taco Bell, but whatever they use in their burritos caused a severe reaction!!! Suggestions for overcoming this boredom? Miss eating at restaurants, but I'm scared there will be additives or ingredients that the server/chef don't know about. Guest guest
If you can eat grain, starch, Udi's gluten free bread has been a life saver here. It is soft and that makes a world of diff..best gluten free bread, bagels, pizza crust we've found. We have a local farmers cooperative, market that is wonderful.. something about this fresh off the vine food that makes you wnt to eat it. ours also have gras fed and finished meats, free range eggs, raw cheeses. My kids could not tolerate eggs until we started the local farmer free range eggs. With the Udis bread we can finally have french toast again. with the farmers market, you can eat more with the seasons which prompts different menus. I am often too weak to cook so my family puts up with simple fast recipes. I use against the grain sour dough bread to make garlic bread which helps jazz up simple salads. I use gluten free Bells fried chicken and cut up into chunks for a salad. Simple things, and finding little things like teh garllic toast make a ton of diff at least for my kids. I put salmon in salads as well. There are some decent gluten free restuarants but of course no guarentee.. do you know whats available in your area? We (kids here) like Pei Wei, Chipotle (everything there but flour tortillas is gluten free), Red Robin uses a dedicated fryer for fries, forgot the name.. burger chain here that also has a dedicated fryer for fries.. just order without bun and ask them to change gloves. Unos and A pizza have gluten free pizza and other gluten free items, OutBack steak house has a pretty expansive gluten free menue.. there are others.. I take gluten ease with me just in case and it helps.. I have more restuarants in my notebook in the car. I printed out gluten free menus and put in a binder pizza made from udi's pizza crust is much better than these restaurant pizzas salt might be a tough one in the more processed foods and restuarant food... the bell and evans chicken has sea salt and the udi's bread has salt. many restaurants that are gluten free are pretty good about making exeptions when they can such as leaving off a spice, salt if possible. Guest guest
Trader Joe's is good too-my daughter is dairy and gluten free and has adapted pretty well. Amazing how many products are out there now. Have you tried sheep or goat cheeses? My daughter can eat those safely and its opened up a whole world of new food possibilities for her. Last week she made actual lasagna with rice pasta sheets from Trader Joe's and sheep's milk cheeses! She hasn't had lasagna in years! > > Do you have a Whole Foods Store in your area?
