Guest guest
Truly the last thing I want to think about is asbestos. I was exposed to a lot more than what the police in the article were--first, over a period of a year, as construction was occuring on our upstairs, and chunks of plaster and dust would fall out of our ceiling downstairs and then when we removed a ceiling ourselves to prove that the upstairs work (we had to have the upstairs rebuilt after a collapse) had structural problems. Long story short, as per our structural engineer's advisement, we sawed through the ceiling for like six hours to get it down and expose the joists above. It was only later we remembered that 1940s plaster could have have asbestos--and when we had a sample tested, actonite came up. A very, very bad asbestos to breathe in. In our current condo, I discovered to my horror that people would have their asbestos-covered boilers worked on without proper asbestos containment and cleanup procedures. I will be lucky if mold and bacteria are the worst of my what my body has to deal with.
