Guest guest
Amy, Our ENT told us that Davey's ear canals are so tiny, that we do not have to worry about the water getting in his ears. We have not every taken any precautions with water, and he loves to swim. He has had tubes (6 sets so far) since he was 9 months old. I always know when the tubes are out. He will get an ear infection. The ENT told us at our last visit that he is going to try to insert a modified t tube into Davey's ears this time (he hopes). so they will be more permanent. We are expecting the tubes to last through summer. They have been in place since November 2005. mom to Amy 18, Kelsey 16, Davey 6, and Will 6 -----Original Message-----From: Multiples-DS [mailto:Multiples-DS ]On Behalf Of amySent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 5:13 PMTo: Multiples-DS Subject: check-in and ears Hi everyone! It has been ages since I posted. Things have been crazy around here and also my computer went on the fritz for quite a while. Carly and Calli are walking (almost running)!! They are very independent right now and are very stubborn. Blake is almost finishing up Jr. KP and is busy in sports. (my husband) is still recuperating from a bad concussion (5 months ago) and I am getting ready for my school to start exams (looking forward to two months off to get some things done around the house!) The girls have had tubes in their ears for almost a year now and (knock on wood) have NEVER had an ear infection. My question is, how do you keep the ears dry?? We have these aqua bands for the tub, but we have a pool and the girls love the water and I want them to be able to play without the tight bands(they are always pulling at them) on and without me having to worry if they get their ears wet. Any helpful advice/solutions???? Someone had mentioned the moulded ear plugs. Are they good? They are expensive!! but I would pay if they will keep them dry. How long before they won't fit anymore? Thanks for your expertise.Amy, mom to Blake 4, Carly and Calli, 20 month old ident. twins with Ds
Guest guest
Years ago, for my son with tubes, we just used wax we bought at the drug store ( a little plastic box containing four lumps of wax). That was a cheap solution for us. My ENT friends nowadays seem to worry less about water getting in ears with tubes.amy wrote: Hi everyone! It has been ages since I posted. Guest guest
Hi there Amy. I agree, it has been ages since you posted but I understand. My last post explained problems with my computer too. Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope he continues to recuperate. I couldn't survive around here without my husband's help/presence. Although he doesn't get home until after 7pm most nights. Did Blake like junior PK ? I'm sorry that I never had Zachary (now 5.5 years) in a morning program before he started Kindergarten in Sept 2005. He didn't turn 5 until Dec17 so he was really young and found it challenging to adapt to the routine. I'm glad your girls are so mobile. I remember when ours started moving faster than a " toddle " . Sometimes it is scary with how fast the three of them get going. But they have sooooo much fun and tire themselves out sooner. Are you using any sign language with the kids ? About the " water in the ears " concern- our girls had tubes put in once so far, Nov2004. As far as we know they are still in there. But they love to plunge their head into and below the water in the bath. At first I was concerned, but nothing ever happened with their ears/the tubes. After awhile I just felt by them " taking the plunge " , was helping to prepare them for the lake this summer at the cottage. No need to spend anymore $$$$ than necessary. I'd like to see pictures of the kids again sometime. I will try to send some your way too. Take care )) Janice- mom to Zachary (5.5),Cassandra and na (3.5)both girls with designer genes > > Hi everyone! > It has been ages since I posted. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I tried the molded ear plugs for my and and they floated right out of their ears and I found them floating on top of the water in the pool. I thought maybe I didn't have them in right, so I'd try again. I gave up after two pool sessions. The ENT doctor told me not to worry if they get wet. She said that as a preventative measure, I could put the cortisporin suspension in their ears right after a swim. They do occasionally get ear infections, but not nearly as many as before the tubes were put in. How fun that your girls are walking all over the place now! I enjoy reading about everyone's experiences. Until next time, take care!
