I'm not a Dr. but there is no doubt in my mind why they are sick!!! From

what I have learned over the years basements are NOT for living and should

never be carpeted or covered in any way.

I have two people who have gotten sick living in finished basements. The

only two people I know who lived in finished basements. One I mentioned here

a year ago or so, lost his mind. At the same time, his mother who he was

living with temporarily and who lived upstairs, went in to a nursing home at

same time he did, mother and son from this neat, clean looking little home

she had bought about 5 years before that but had a completely finished

basement, fully carpeted. Now a good friend of mine from school who is

temporarily staying in someone's finished basement has gotten very sick and her

doctor told her if her fever stays up to go to hospital. I mentioned to her

finished basement issue but lightly as I don't have ANY information on

anything, just simply that it is finished, carpeted basement and she hardly

ever

gets sick. I just got news today on how sick she is. She had signs of an

infection and doctor put her on Bactrim and prednisone. Now she is REALLY s

ick and running a fever. (i.e. so probably fungal infection as prednisone

makes fungal infections worse), but I doubt she will listen to me. Her

father was a doctor (and I was an art major) and she's a total believer that

they know what they are doing.

I'm so sorry. Try giving some info for them to read. Write a letter with it

explaining  you're not trying to overwhelm them, that you care.
