Guest guest
He's the story with zucchini, and a lot of other plants. Their only function in life is to reproduce. That means make seeds. The seeds are contained in the fruit. If you pick the fruit (squash in this case), it hasn't full filled it's goal and so it will try again. Pick them young and you'll get lots. Let them grow big and you'll get very few. How many per plant? Count and let us know. ew Fw: 15 Downright Delicious Zucchini Recipes This is mainly for EW for all that zucchini he has. He can probably use these for an idea or inspiration. I'm going to check it out too. And how many zucchini might usually grow on one plant? That is all I put in and not sure how it will do here this time of year. I have it in a moveable planter but if it starts to grow, it will probably soon become immoveable as it would have to grow off the side of the container. Guest guest
It must be wonderful. I think I'll be able to grow this winter. Can you grow there in the winter too? I loves my garden. ew Re: Fw: 15 Downright Delicious Zucchini Recipes I am just hoping zucchini comes up. The beans sprouted at least. nothing else was peeking up. I put beans 2 " down or think that was the measurement, maybe it was only 1 " but they were near the top of the soil. Looked just like bean sprouts like I'd grow in the sprout jar. I was so excited to see something peeking out. I turned off the Aerogardens tonight and moved them to some shelves. Not like I wanted as had to take out a shelf as they were too big for the shelves. So not as sturdy as it should be, but it looks good there. Hard to see the 2 on top. I have another set of shelves so will have to put those up too. Will have to take a shelf out as well. But I could put some sunflowers out there in mats I ordered. but I'm afraid to open them because of bugs and don't have space in freezer to freeze them. And the time was 60 days to kill off the bugs or larvae if they are in there. I could vacuum seal all of them but still have to plant some and don't want bugs flying around. Wonder if they were washed really really well if it would make any difference. I know that you, EW, says it is just a bit more protein. Thank you for the tip to take them off early while young. Will smother them with marinara sauce and mozarella, I think and bake them. Carolyn Wilkerson
Guest guest
Where I am - 25 miles east of LA - we have very mild winters. I can grow carrots, turnips and radishes all year long, but the other crops have a longer growing season than other areas. But yes, something fresh is in my garden all year long. ew Re: Fw: 15 Downright Delicious Zucchini Recipes It must be wonderful. I think I'll be able to grow this winter. Guest guest
That is great EW. My daughter lives up the hill off Rt. 15 on the way to Barstow or Vegas. Their garden does not grow year round. Her husband puts it out each year but sometimes not as soon as it probably should go in. 2 years ago they had more zucchini than they could use and I began collecting some recipes and sending to her. She has one or two apricot trees and they are great. They taste more like a peach than an apricot, I think as they are very juicy and sweet. She makes preserves out of them. I just sent her family an Aerogarden for an early Christmas present. I thought it would be good for the family. I sent one to my son's family, too. Neither of them know quite where to put them. I think when they start growing they will enjoy them. I told my son he could put it on an end table in one of the kid's room or the bedside table. I thought his kids, the two younger ones would take care of it. The older 2 are working and will be back to college in the fall. My daughter has an 8 year old left at home until her daughter returns from Atlanta, GA from her mission for the church. Her other 2 kids are living in Seattle. Both work and one will be going to school if she can save money. I didn't send them a garden, at least not yet. AG had a buy 2 get one free sale. I wanted one anyway for tomatoes and I bought the wrong one in the first place (though it is doing great. It is 2 weeks now and there are salad greens growing in it. In another week I imagine I'll be taking off some leaves. Have to have 3rd set of leaves to take the top set or two of leaves off.  The herbs are doing well but not as well as salad but that is a used garden so may need the new lights. Flowers are doing the worst and taking a long time. it is a used system too. My new one hasn't arrived yet as they were out and it is backordered. Lots of buying I guess.  My beans out in the container garden are doing really well and can't believe how they have grown. It has only been a few days, not even a week. But the corn is not showing yet so I guess I should have put it in first and waited. But if it never comes up, I have beans.  There may be the squash up as I can't tell yet but there is a small plant at each end in the middle, which is where I put them. I may have to transplant some beans to the ground. I have 2 raised bed things but have to dig up the yard there and put in top soil for them to fill up the square. Oh in my enthusiasm I have said too much already. nothing in the tomato and pepper container yet. Those were seeds too.
