Guest guest
Hi Jeannie I also have a patient I have been treating for Hep C for about 8 months while he waited for the new drugs to be made available. Just after I saw him, there was a report in our local paper of a member of the local First Nation treating and curing himself of Hep C using Oregon Grape root. I started my patient on UNDA, helped him improve his diet, and suggested he drink Oregon Grape Root tea. His wife, who was adamantly against using the drugs, gathered massive quantities of the root from their property (apparently, it has been growing all over their land as an invasive weed!). He has been drinking 2-3 cups/day, and doing UNDA quite consistently. His liver enzymes, which were very elevated, have returned to normal or near normal, the nosebleeds he was having have stopped, and he feels great. His liver specialist suggested he hold off on the new drug treatment since he is doing so well. I did not try milk thistle with this patient, as I had also heard mixed things about it. I was also told by a very experienced TCM herbalist from China, that milk thistle repairs the liver, but stops it from draining (he said it " locked the robbers in the house " ). In my patients case, with the liver enzymes so high, I thought draining the liver made more sense. That combined with the report in the local paper, and, the fact that there was so much of it on the patient's own property, made my choice. I doubt very much you will find any " evidence " of the effectiveness of this plant in the literature, but, it does present you with another option. It is certainly a safe plant, and not unpleasant to drink as a tea. Loreen Dawson, ND Sechelt, BC > > Hi Group, > > > I am looking for a drainage perspective on working with Hep C. I have a 68 yo male who has been positive for 9 yrs and remains in stage 1-2 according to his most recent bx in the fall of 2011. He has a great lifestyle- active, lots of fresh fruits and veggies, healthy marriage/ social life, great SEAMMS. > > > The patient is getting pressure from his MD to try the triad of meds now available to him here in BC (interferon, ribavirin and bocepivir; the bocepivir has just been approved for use here and the MD's are all excited about it). Due to his age he will only qualify to begin the drug therapy for a few more months so the patient feels it is " now or never " . That said, he doesn't like the idea of the meds and is looking to be proactive in other ways. > > > As of today I just started him on a super basic tx plan including probiotics, skin brushing, and COP's. I have requested all of his labs and reports and we will follow up in a few weeks. > > > Also of question for me is the use of milk thistle. I have heard several takes on its use in Hep C. Currently he is taking it. What do people know/think about this? > > > Please share with me your wisdom and experience! > > Thanks so much, > > Dr. Jeannie Achuff, ND > Sage Clinic > , BC > OriginsofHealthNaturalMedicine.com >
