I'll have to start saving the filters when I go to motels.  We don't drink

coffee anyway.

Okay... with that inexpensive of a growing medium, I just MIGHT give this a try.

I have flax seed and chia seeds already. And coffee filters.

Carolyn,

You can get a package of coffee filters at any grocery store for about a

dollar.

Hi

I am a tad confused about this. You just put your sprout seeds on the filter (on

a plate/tray/bowl) and water it? They grow with no roots? I am missing something

here.

Could you lay it out in a 1. 2. 3. step example? Perhaps I am having a massive

" senior moment " ?

Thanks, Phyllis

Hi Phyllis,

The only plants that I know of that grows without roots is air fern, but of

course, air fern is not a plant. So yes there are roots.

The filters are just a means to hold moisture for the roots to take up. The

roots are not strong enough to penetrate the paper, so they spread out on top.

Because the roots have nothing to grab a hold of, the sprouts will not stand up

as they would with coir or baby blanket, etc.

I think that we are going to get a report from Melody telling us that coffee

filters are not the ideal medium

Hi, you are not missing anything. And no senile moments here, lol. That was

exactly what I did. I wanted to see if my pea shoots would SHOOT without any

medium, without anything for the roots to set in. The coffee filter was the

perfect choice for this experiment. I had no idea if the peas would root in the

coffee filter. They did not root, but they did shoot up. I just watered the

coffee filters every day.

They shot up, BEAUTIFULLY, however, they didn't stay up (like they would have if

they were in a medium. They were kind of (don't know what word I'm trying to

use ) but they were not sturdy (like when grown on my Sure to Grow Mat) So from

now on I will do them in my sure to grow mats (as I have done in the past).

See, I love to try out new stuff.

I had my landlord growing pea shoots in coffee grinds. Nothing worked (they

didn't grow) but at least she tried.

lol

LOL   Contrary to tv commercials, viagara can't do everything.  With cut

things a bit of sugar helps.

Roses are Red

Violets are Loopy

If you grow Pea Shoots in coffee filters.

They turn out droopy!!!

So a lesson I've learned

If I want my shoots to be fat

I shall make sure to use

MY SURE TO GROW MAT!!!
