Guest guest
kathy.....i don't even bother anymore.....i thought that it was too much fuss.....besides, the hulls are great fiber in your system.....peace, mary > > I tried dehulling with the OXO Salad Spinner and only a few hulls were separated. This is the Good Grips Spinner. Any tips on how to do this? I didn't have luck with putting them in a bowl of water and scooping the hulls from the surface, either. I'm stumped on how to do this. > > Kathy >
Guest guest
What type of sprouts are you de-hulling, Kathy? Some come off more easily than others; also, hulls tend to come off more mature sprouts more easily, so how long they've sprouted makes a difference. I have reasonable results with the swish-and-scoop method in a large bowl of water; it doesn't get all hulls and I lose a few sprouts but it's the best for me. Guest guest
I'm right there with you Kathy. I've encountered several different challenges while trying to grow sprouts. As far as dehulling, I also have the OXO and found it not as helpful because my sprouts don't grow as much as the pictures show, so I also end up losing some through the basket holes. There's definitely a learning curve for me, and I've just accepted it as an opportunity to learn. I hope someone here can tell you the right technique. Guest guest
Thanks Molly. These are brassicas. It's the Long Life Blend. Some hulls are at the top but most are at the bottom. My yield seemed low so I wonder if these are all un-germinated seeds. I t looks like it. Kathy > > I tried dehulling with the OXO Salad Spinner and only a few hulls were separated. Guest guest
I am new but I've dehulled using the OXO mini salad spinner, it works quite well. I put the sprouts in the basket and put the basket in the bowl, then fill with water. I work the sprouts while submerged, the hulls will float to the top. Then I use my palm to hold the sprouts down while I pour off the water and the hulls. I do it the same way as shown in the video by the SproutPeople. Guest guest
Hmmm, the Long Life Blend can be a little fussy to sprout, a bit temperature-sensitive, so I think your analysis may be right. I've had better results with those as microgreens in a tray. Molly These are brassicas. It's the Long Life Blend. Some hulls are at the top but most are at the bottom. Guest guest
Kathy, what I do is place my sprouts in a bowl of water, then swish them around with my fingers.. I then take out the sprouts that float using a fork and clean the bowl out till I have most of the sprouts removed. I then pour the bowl of water into a sieve then discard the hulls. I do this twice and it removes almost all the hulls and the ones left aren't worth worrying about. Some mentioned sunny hulls... I use Hulled, Raw sunflower seeds. They sprout just like the ones in the hulls and there are no hulls to worry about... Hope this helps. Dennis > > I tried dehulling with the OXO Salad Spinner and only a few hulls were separated.
