Guest guest
You shouldn't need a specialty shop for any of those things. Cornichons should be either where regular pickles are, or where things like pimentos and cocktail onions are, or in a specialty section of the grocery store. You can also get pickalilly, which is a pickle blend that has conichons in it. You should also be able to get capers with no problem. Pepper jelly is very common around here, so it can be found at produce stands, grocery stores, or even convenience stores. > > I found a gourmet site today and was ordering some cornichons (I had never heard of them before but they were little bitty pickles in vinegar. It was called for in a recipe by Alton ) and was going to get some capers and some pepper jelly and some apple cider jelly and then some cheeses. My order was about $51 and it cost $4.95 for insulated packing (for the cheese) and then $16.95 for postage so it was over $21 for shipping. If I bught just the cornichons at $4.95, it was $6.95 or $7.95 for shipping so it was over $11.00 and didn't need the insulated part. I just cancelled the $51 dollar order. I figured I'd try to go to Boca Raton to see if they had a kitchen store or a specialty store or gormet store. It made it too expensive for me at over $71 for the order. I thought the cheeses were interesting as well as the jellies and the little pickles. They were used in a potato salad. . > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  >
Guest guest
The pepper jelly I got locally isn't as good as what I want. I had gotten some from Canada that was a red pepper jelly and it was nice and sweet and I put it on top of Brie on top of crackers and it was hot and yet sweet and we loved it. Costco carried it and now they can't get it. I have gotten a red pepper jelly and a jalapeno jelly but neither are as good as the other one way. The cheeses were a bit diffeent but nothing so far out that I couldn't find something similar.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 11:06 PM Subject: Re: shipping costs  You shouldn't need a specialty shop for any of those things.
