Guest guest
Hi Guys, I had an injection into my elbow today of Kenalog. Anyone else had this done? My elbow wasn't too bad, but it did hurt. The Dr. just decided it would cease the inflammation and stop the hurt, so I let him do it. How does everyone feel about this? What do you know about Kenalog. I know I saw a post about this before?

Guest guest
Hi , I have been using Kenalog (cortisone shots) for the last 5 years or so years -- usually injected in a finger or toe, but have also had a shot once in my shoulder and twice in my wrist. It seems to work really well in the small joints and not so well in the larger ones. I have experienced no harm that I can see or feel from these shots, although repeated injections in the same joint are apparently not advisable (i.e., can cause tissue or joint damage) and long term use of cortisone has undesirable systemic effects (e.g. osteoporosis, diabetes, glaucoma). My rheumy says the shots I have been given every 3 to 6 months are much less harmful than taking ongoing oral prednisone or a stronger DMARD such as MTX on a regular basis. Over these last 5 years, almost all of my fingers and a few toes have been injected with great and long-lasting success. Usually one cortisone shot is all that is necessary-- especially if I catch the flare early (ocassionally 2 shots in the same spot have been necessary). The flare usually never returns in the same spot (the PA seems to rove around, looking for a new spot to attack every 3 to 6 months). In the begining, the injections were primarily for inflamed tendons/trigger fingers. The first time that I had a trigger finger I let it go for too long, which resulted in a build up of scar tissue and I needed an operation to make the finger bend again. I now believe that it's a bad idea to let a joint or tendon remain inflamed for too long because permanent damage can result. With subsequent trigger fingers, the doctors realized that cortisone injections work wonders for me in my fingers and toes. This has worked not only for trigger fingers, but also for 2 sausage digits. As I mentioned, I've had less success with injections in my wrist and shoulder. The cortisone shots I use are called Triamcinolone (brand name Kenalog) approx 5 mgs/mls per shot. (I tried a different brand of cortisone injection twice, which also worked, but caused the surrounding tissues to feel very sore for a few weeks). > Hi Guys, > > I had an injection into my elbow today of Kenalog. Guest guest
I assume the Kenalog was injected deep into muscle. The steroid is in suspension and will be slowly released over the next month or two. This accounts for its long-lasting effect AND its latency for first effect. For it has taken between three days and two weeks for the Kenalog to produce relief from anosmia. Your response to a very small dose of prednisone is very rapid, count yourself lucky on that. Hopefully the kenalog will do you well too. Cheers, Karl W. kenalog I don't understand why I can take one 5mg pred. and two hours later I can smell and taste but I went last wednesday and had a shot of kenalog and still can't taste or smell anything?????? Guest guest
I havea a few questions. After completing the desens do you remain on all of the meds or can you get off of them? Also, who else has problems with their ears? I had tubes put in last June but they were later removed. Now the right ear is acting up again. Who else has similar problems? Kenalog See http://personal.ecu.edu/wuenschk/Kenalog.htm . My last injection was almost two years ago. I have managed OK without them since then, but am more congested than I would like. I have never heard of it. I had my polyps removed last April and they are back. I go to the ENT here in the Atlanta area on May 14th. I cannot smell at all and now I have puffy eyes all day. I struggle to perform many daily activities. Thank God at 53 years old, I do not have to worry about being pregnant but I do worry about the stress related to Samters. I take Advair, three hypertension drugs, 1 anti anxiety, 1 depression, 1 HRT, Allegra, Hydroxizine, and Singulair. I think that is all of it. Oh, every two weeks my husband gives me the two Xolair shots. Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos. Guest guest
I have a lot of problems with my ears. Because of the polyps the fluid doesn't drain. When the fluid has no where to go it backs up into my ears. It's not painful at first and sounds like listening through water. If it sits too long it does get infected and then the drum ruptures. I've had tubes that helped the drainage, but didn't stop my ears from filling with fluid. > > I havea a few questions. Guest guest
Corticosteroids (steroids of the adrenal) are known to increase the risk of aspergillosis. DHEA is the steroid precursor of estrogen and testosterone. Low levels of DHEA mean low level of sex hormones and decreased libido.
