Guest guest
Hi there and . I use the Sprout Garden. Round Green Trays. I have two sets. Best money I ever spent. They stack on on the other (you can see videos of them up on youtube). Takes about 4 to 5 days depending on what I'm sprouting. I use them 3 times a day. I bring a little baggy to my local breakfast cafe where I have my egg sandwich topped with my lovely broccoli, fenugreek, clover, radish and sunnies). I just add them to the sandwich and it's heaven. At lunch I usually have a grilled tempeh on a beautiful colorful sprout salad with whatever you usually add to salads. Sometimes I add some tuna or grilled chicken, but usually it's Tempeh. At dinner before my main meal I always have a sprout salad. I also give them away to neighbors and friends. My landlord is now sprouting chia and pea shoots in the back yard. I also gave her a bag of sprouts to eat for herself because she has not been feeling that good, she doesn't believe in doctors, etc. I handed her the bag of sprouts and said " humor me'. She laughed but she took them. I like everybody to be healthy. lol Melody > > Hi, > > Just joined and wanted to say HI too everyone. Guest guest
Hi right back atcha, & , You're right, the answers will be vast. I use EasySprout sprouter for most things. I used colanders for mung beans, lentils and beans. I grow sunnies and pea shoots in coir. I also have a FreshLife machine when I'm having a party and need a lot of sprouts all at once. As with most sprouters, I started with mason jars, but grew out of them. I have used many others, but don't any more, because the EasySprout is just right for two people. And I have more than one going at a time. ew Hi from Wyoming Hi, Just joined and wanted to say HI too everyone. My wife got me into sprouting so far so good. Guest guest
Carolyn: No, I have never made my own. I go to the only store in my area that sells it. Shoprite. Here is what I purhase. http://www.lightlife.com/Vegan-Food-Vegetarian-Diet/Organic-Three-Grain-Tempeh There are other flavors but Shoprite only carries the 3 grain kind. I would try others if I could find another place. Perhaps I will when I go into the City. this stuff is amazing. I cut it in squares, add a dash of sesame oil and put it in the salads. Very healthy. It's vegan and I don't miss any kind of meat when I eat this. I also use tumeric every day also. So I try and do my best to eat as healthfully as I know how. Let me know if you ever try this. And I'm happy I don't have to make my own. lol Melody > > That was very informative. You make your own, I suppose. they made it sound easy but I'd be afraid I'd poison myself. It sounds interesting. I wish I could go someplace like whole foods and try some of it out. I can't seem to add some of my favorites anymore as my yahoo headings or the things at the top are gone now. I am not sure what happened. I don't like when they change to something else as it confuses me. I guess I don't take change as much when I age. > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Friday, May 18, 2012 10:30 PM > Subject: Re: Hi from Wyoming > > >  > Carolyn: > > Go here and you'll learn all about Tempeh. Guest guest
I make big salads and use lots of sprouts. Also a lot of items in my yard that most people don't know are edible. Dandelion greens and flowers. nasturtium flowers and petals, common mallow seeds and young leaves. And what other edible flowers that happen to be growing at the time. Also, I will include sunnies on a veggie snack tray. ew Re: Hi from Wyoming hOW DO YOU USE SPROUTS for a party, EW? Guest guest
Melody, yet again you're a star. I have been wanting to make tempeh but didn't know where to buy the culture from. This company are only in Belgium so I can get some of their starter! Thank you Tempeh here I come! Charlotte P.S. Looks like they ship worldwide without shipping costing the earth (although shipping always costs our planet). > > That was very informative. Guest guest
I know what dandelion greens look like but it is easier to tell when the flower is on (which is edible) but then the greens are not as good when the flower is on. The young Spring ones are the best or that is what my Mom told me. She had a sister who loved the wild greens and was too proud to go pick them so mom picked them for her when they were young. mom was older. She had carried that sister out of the house in the middle of the night when the Obed River flooded in the 30's in TN. House washed away with the lantern still burning on the table in the kitchen. A woman did a demo on edible wild plants and she breaded the dandelion flower and fried it. It was good. She said something about cattails being edible too, but that seemed like it would be difficult to eat to me. I may try squash flowers stuffed with cream cheese if I get enough squash flowers. How long before weed killers dissipate? A year? Nasturtiums would have to be something I planted or I'd not trust it as being nasturtiums. I don't know flowers that well. Pansies are edible aren't they? And geraniums? Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2012 2:15 AM Subject: Re: Hi from Wyoming  I make big salads and use lots of sprouts. Guest guest
Pansy yes. Geraniums no. Except scented geraniums, yes. Dandelion greens are best when they are quite young. Before they flower. ew Re: Hi from Wyoming I don't know flowers that well. Pansies are edible aren't they? And geraniums?
