Guest guest
Right, but I have heard of the seed before. I have no idea about the type of plant, but it was something one is likely to remember, which is reason it is not a good marketing name. It probably means something way different from our usage. Guest guest
Since oils tend to go rancid, I wonder if all oils except what one does herself would have things added to make it hold up and be less likely to go rancid? Guest guest
I also only keep oils for about 1 year or 1 1/2 years of I haven't used it up. I also try to keep it in a cool place. I have a fridge that isn't as cold as normal that I store my oil in. this helps with rancidity. Holly
Guest guest
Thanks, Pam. I thought perhaps I had been being too much of a doomsdayer, lol. I do try to inform without chiding others for their choices, but you can never be sure how you come off to others. I do take notice when someone emphatically states to " do not " something or the other, and I try not to be that way. > >> > > >> > Particularly since the " data " on benefits comes mostly from the food > >> > industry itself. Guest guest
Oh BRENDA! I for one am your greatest fan (one of them???). I learn so much from you and remember you helped encourage me SO much when I first found out I had celiac and other things. You helped me get back to health mentally and physically. Keep helping us make good food choices. Everyone is different and in different situations so they should take and leave what they want, but we all need to be aware of how to be healthier and what to watch out for. We all need to keep learning so we can live better lives. BTW, I found the nice Amish people here in MI have real milk :~)and are willing to share. in MI > I am probably safe in assuming the " food police' comment refers to me, since I am usually the one to throw a wet blanket

Guest guest
I, too, appreciate what you teach me. However, I don't want you to be offended if I don't do all of it. If I do some of it, I am better than before. Sometimes I can't resist that hot dog with chili, but then if I try to make sure I eat fruits and veggies the rest of the day, then I feel I did better than yesterday. I am thinking of it. I have been making purchases to help me do more. I went looking for coir at Home Depot today to find none. They do have the coconut baskets and coconut mats in little sheets, but no coir. I am just lucky that I saw some before when I bought some amaryllis, about 6 or 6 at a great price and then planted them all (in coconut fiber and don't recall it being referred to as coir) and then gave them to neighbor ladies around Christmas year before this past one. I bought them at Lowe's but then I doubt they have the coir either, but i'll check another day. I ended up buying a wrought iron planter with orchids and other flowers with a welcome sign on it and a pretty plant with purple with a white ring around the edge and some peat pots just in case. Got a new hose holder too as i need to run 2 lines, one to front and one to back. I bought one for front a few weeks ago but don't have it in yet as we need to put in with concrete. Will probably dig a hole, put in concrete and pour in water, mix it with a paint stirer and then stick the post in there and hold it until it sets up in quick dry cement. Run a hose to them and then have a hose coming out. I believe I bought a split spout a few months back.    So getting prepared. I called about a couple of used Aerogarden's but am not sure they are worth it as lamps will be used and likely to need new lamps and new seed pods, etc. and Aerogarden had their things on sale. And none of the ones I called about seem to have the tall equipment for tomatoes which I love. I bought the wrong new one for sure. I do lose interest at times so hate to spend a lot and lose interest if I don't do well with them. Tomatoes I put out this year didn't do well enough to pay for the plants I put in.  One did last year, but other one didn't. I was able to grow chives and I still have them growing in 2nd year now. No new plant.  Aerogarden had free shipping through midnight last night. i am about ready to read the book to find out how to assemble. Still concerned about what I can put out as things are sort of reversed down here. But the Aerogarden shouldn't matter, I hope. Guest guest
I would never expect, nor be offended if someone didn't follow my suggestions. I only even put them out there, when the topics come up and questions are asked, because I suffered needlessly for years with ailments I had no clue were connected to food. Food choices are just that-choices, and each person needs to chose for themselves what is best for them, but I believe being armed with knowledge to help MAKE those choices is a better option than not knowing. I would have given anything to have gotten my information from someone, but sadly, I had to learn much of it the hard way! > > > > > I am probably safe in assuming the " food police' comment refers to me, since I am usually the one to throw a wet blanket > > > > > > >

Guest guest
, I totally agree with what Pam says. Well, not the part of not being around - because I wasn't around then either - LOL! In my opinion, you are not food police. You clearly state your opinions based on your experience as a means to educate others who might be experiencing similar issues and to provide education so others can avoid experiencing what you've gone through. I, personally, thank you for being so outspoken and willing to share your advice and experience. Andresa > > Actually, I don't think you were around, , when these series of > incidents occurred. Guest guest
 I was watching Bobby Deen on Food Network the other day and he had Dr. Oz's daughter there (and she is a beauty) and very into good health. She said something about how it would be better if he used Coconut Oil and then said a bit about it. This is Bobby's healthier Southern meals. He was taking out some calories and fats from his mother's type recipes. I can't recall the girl's (woman's) name but she indicated that the coconut oil could be used instead of butter, even a reduction of it, and that it had a great taste. I really noticed that because I found out about coconut on here. Guess i'll be searching the web to find out more. I had absolutely no idea that canola oil wasn't one of the best oils. You use that in baking (if you bake?)? I always used EVO in salads and in sauteeing and then I used Canola in baking. I also have grape seed oil as the cooking school here has started to use that more and evidently it can go to a bit higher temperature. They aren't into Coconut Oil yet. Rules seem to keep changing. Thanks so much for your help. I didn't know there were so many things added to our foods. I did know there were preservatives, but I wanted to be preserved, just not dead and preserved. Can't put LOL after that as it is no joke.  I am going to try to stay off here a few days to try to get my Aerogarden started and maybe even sweep and mop my home.  Maybe even see if I find the countertop. Plan to buy a little cabinet to hide some stuff.  I sure appreciate all of you and the knowledge you share. Be patient if I don't follow all of it right away. This is a big transition for an " old " lady who shouldn't feel so old. And to think I tried a bit of sprouting more than 20 years ago and didn't stick to it. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Friday, March 30, 2012 11:59 AM Subject: Re: I have a question about oil!!  80 % of canola oil is gmo.....isn't that a pity !.....i pay alot for non gmo canola oil.....peace, mary > >>>>> > >> > > >>>>> > >> > I'm so sorry. Guest guest
good morning.....personally, i think that we can create alot of difficulties for ourselves by getting our medical advice from the internet or tv shows.....there certainly is a great deal of good information out there ( as well as bad ) but on the internet people can say absolutely anything whether it is factual or not or is applicable to an individual's situation coconut oil is grand stuff but it contains 12 grams of saturated fat per tablespoon.....when someone says that something is better than something else, i think that one needs to take that with a grain of salt.....most stuff presented now is just a matter of a person's personal opinion too.....i think that you're smart, carolyn, to do some research of your own when you hear some new information i use canola oil or olive oil for baking and in some salad dressings because those are the two oils that were recommended for us by the heart doctor but i did a good deal of reading about both of them ( and other stuff ) myself too if you want to do some interesting researching, do some reading about salts.....i read that grey celtic sea salt is approximately 13% lower in sodium than other sea salts and havn't found information to the contrary yet.....maybe it's true.....i find learning about things like this to be interesting too.....have a great day.....peace, mary > > >>>>> > >> > > > >>>>> > >> > I'm so sorry. I wouldn't touch canola or rapeseed oil, myself – not with 80% being GMO (and I'm not talking about being cross-pollinated to bring certain traits out). Sorry, I misunderstood your statement. Guest guest
Do you spray Neem oil diluted on your outdoor plants to keep away bugs or do you just share with them. I wouldn't mind but they take a bit of this one and that one. They should eat it all and leave the rest alone. Guest guest
well, it is good to know that we can respectfully disagree.....someone must have accurate, well researched information about what is nutritionally healthy for different medical conditions.....i can't see that a heart doctor would not necessarily have received nutritional training either.....my feeling still is that a person needs to do a good deal of learning and personal research on one's own before following any regime for one's health coconut oil has been sold in health food stores for many years now.....great stuff.....it has lots of wonderful uses for certain people one of the great advantages of our society is that we can all eat any way that we want and i think that everyone appreciates that freedom.....i know that i do i love hearing your florida stories.....we lived there for 31 years.....i'm from canada .....peace, mary > > > >>>>> > >> > > > > >>>>> > >> > I'm so sorry. Guest guest
Overwhelming sometimes. However, he does try to do what he can. Sometimes we don't quite make up for one person together. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2012 9:17 AM Subject: Re: I have a question about oil!!  Oh Carolyn: Your poor husband.
