Guest guest
Hi, Does anybody else feel hung over from DOMS? Maybe the body is just exhausted but I feel hung over, for lack of a better word. Matt Kahl Milwaukee, WI
Guest guest
Matt, When I train for too long I feel hung over from DOMS as well. The only way that I know how to get over it is to drink water and to SLEEP. Guest guest
I find that if I have taxed my body's recovery ability to the limit and I am not careful with my hydration I can feel hung over. If the feeling persists I tend to take an extra day of rest before the next workout. I do not find it tied to DOMS, though. My DOMS usually occurs 48 hours after a workout while the hung over sensation occurs within 24 hours. I wonder if you are experiencing the symptoms of mild or " pre " rhabdomyolysis? Guest guest
Hmm! That's a good approximation... Workouts rarely get me to that full lousy " hung over " feeling, the nausea, pounding headache, dehydration, sleep deprivation, death on a cracker feeling... But yeah, every full meet I've ever done left me feeling that way when I finally went to bed. When you think about it, a full powerlifting meet is overkill, three warmups of three exercises, very little rest, stress and little sleep the night before, three maximal attempts of three different gut wrenching exercises...why be " surprised " if you get the DOMS from hell on your body all night? Depending too on how hard I had to work to make 90 kg when I was at that weight class, it could be an all night DOMS adventure where I recall not wanting to move from ONE position that seemed to quell the nausea and at least attempt to placate my pounding skull. 2 liters of water on the nightstand, and hungry but not feeling very well all night... no ibuprofen can cut the full body headache you get from that. Some meets simply leave a full body " bruise " on you, inside and out lol. Once in a while, I'll add JUST enough to a workout (usually DL) to get very close to that full meet death on a cracker feeling. But yes, the few alcohol hangovers I've had are a close approximation - but the headache seems worse from DOMS...the fully muscular " you asked for this one " sort of prevails on any attempt to really sleep for hours. And you're not aware you " overdid " until you actually try to sleep too lol. Good point. Guest guest
Matt, Can you describe your symptoms? I sometimes feel like I'm running a mild fever when my erector spinae and knee joints are sore, because I mentally associate this with feverous symptoms. But when I think of a hangover I think of severe dehydration, stomach upset, a persistent headache, and hypersensitivity towards noise and bright lights. Guest guest
Hi, I haven't done a night of drinking like that in years, ouch!:-) So it's probably a mental association but it's interesting to see that it's somewhat common here. I wasn't really concerned about it being a problem but wanted to see if other people who lift experience it. If you damage enough muscle I wonder if it's the toxins or stress hormones that bring on that feeling. I don't mind the muscle soreness of DOMS because I do associate that with a good workout, even if that's wrong. I guess if I feel hungover the next day I'm curious if I just went past the healthy DOMS point and shot myself in the foot and that's the bod's way of saying watch it. I would describe it as lethargic, feverish, full body aches...which is as bad as hangovers get for me if I let it. Matt Kahl Milwaukee, WI ==================================== 5e. Guest guest
Hi Matt: Are you sure that what you are referring to is DOMS? It takes a day or two to hit and is debilitating. Once was more than enough for me, but I certainly could not confuse it with a hangover. When I would sleep at an unacclimated altitude oxygen equivalent I would wake up with a hangover. I don't know if it is relevant to this thread, but High Altitude Training or exercise put a stop to that and unfortunately hypoxia direct curing my insomnia. Guest guest
Some coaches use DOMS as a training tool. At the beginning of the macro-cycle they work their charges until DOMS appears in order to know which muscle groups need attention - cruel but effective. Guest guest
WHAT? You must be kidding. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
