I will pray for your little Emma! Thank you for the update on your family. I very much enjoy looking at your site and all the pictures. You have a very beautiful family! You have truly been blessed by God! He is the Great Physician and we will trust in Him to bring little Emma through the surgery. She will have gone through so much in a short time and she will need the strength that only God can give.

Take care and keep us posted.

Hello! I hate doing mass e-mails but it seemd like the right time for one of those. I apologize if you haven't heard from me in a while. Life has been busy!! I'll back track quickly because I don't know who has kept up with our journey these past few months and who this is "new news" to. Mike and I decided to begin an international adoption in late August of 2007 and traveled to Ukraine from Jan-March of this year. We adopted two children- Emma, age 5 and Micah, 18 months. Both children have Down syndrome- that is WHY we wanted them :) They were both crib-bound, undernourished, and unstimulated. We knew their fate in Ukraine did not include medical care for their needs including Emma's heart being very overdue for open heart surgery. In early March we brought them home and have been together for almost 5 months now! All of our family is adjusting well to having them with us and we are excited to see their growth not only in stature but in cognition, social avenues, and health as well! Micah was 11 lbs at 18 months and has almost doubled his weight! He's gone from 3 months clothes to 18 months and other than a bout of pneumonia in April and some ongoing reflux issues he is in great health! He wasn't holding his head up or doing any other physical endeavours other than occasionally rolling when we met him but now is fully mobile crawling everywhere and exploring. His newest trick is "Mama" though used without discretion so far, it is still sweet to hear :) He sits, babbles constantly, and is a little chubby ball of energy :) Emma weighed 17 lbs when we brought her home and though she gained weight and almost 2" in length in the initial time she was home, she also had a heart cath done and we were told her lungs had too high of pressures and her heart would be inoperable. The doctor suggested we might have 6 months with her and to enjoy our time. We have been enjoying her, but also looking into other avenues and have found a surgeon that will operate and even gives her a generally good success-rate for survival :) Emma has the same heart defect that na had but na's was closed at 5 months old before it was able to damage her lungs. Emma's surgery was scheduled for mid-August but after a "minor" surgery having her tonsils and adenoids removed and ear tubes put in she has not fully recovered and began declining in health and having difficulty with weight. Her surgery has now been buped up to next week! na and Kristopher are doing great and we are blessed every day by them. na is almost walking and Kristopher will start K-4 in a few weeks. Both are happy to have a new brother and sister! Emma is the reason I'm writing today- to request prayer on her behalf. Her open heart surgery will be Monday, August 4th at All Children's Hospital in St. sburg. Though we have great faith that God has His hand on Emma and evidence of this in the way He orchestrated her homecoming, we continue to ask for the prayers of believers for our sweet girl. Thank you for your prayer for Emma and our family during this time!
