Guest guest
I don't know about that but you will surely contaminate the entire concentrator with mold spores and toxins that would be very difficult to clean out ever. > > Does anyone know whether or not using an oxygen concentrator in a high > mold/high VOC environment would concentrate any contaminants in the output? > Jean > > >
Guest guest
The pro's ought to respond to this, but from personal experience I can relate this: I was prescribed an oxygen concentrator when I had a severe case of bronchitis. I had an awful time with it and felt that it worsened my breathing. The filter that my particular unit had was a very porous, spongelike filter that looked like all it would get would be the absolutely largest of particles. I felt like the unit was sucking up random dust or whatever else was in the air. We kept our house amazingly clean, but there is always some contaminants in the air. After a week or so, I was put on oxygen at my doctor;s insistence. Unless the concentrator you have, has some kind of super hepa filter I can imagine that it would keep out mold and then for voc's you'd need something else as well. Guest guest
Thanks for asking this question. I've often wondered about this when I see oxygen concentrators advertised or used. Some good answers too. I think high MERV filters on them would be necessary, otherwise buying oxygen and carrying it in small tank, although inconvenient, might be better. Since officials ignore mold and bacteria in air quality I've even wondered about the air quality of oxygen you buy but hopefully medical grade is clean?? I buy emergency/pilot oxygen that I breath to get rid of migraine headaches. That may not be clean but I cannot get an rx for medical oxygen, at least not yet, even though research shows breathing oxygen helps relieve migraines, probably because medication is available and you know doctors are the end line of a series of drug pushers in general. My opinion of the doctors, but I think it is their training in many cases and not their choice personally. Or, they just don't think beyond their training. > > Does anyone know whether or not using an oxygen concentrator in a high > mold/high VOC environment would concentrate any contaminants in the output? > Jean > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for the replies. I'm most concerned about VOCs and if they would contaminate the oxygen. I did do some research online and found that it is recommended to use a concentrator in a well-ventilated space with fresh air. I would assume this means VOCs could be a problem. Anyone know for sure? Thanks. Jean
