Hi all,Just found an interesting piece of information on Ibuprofen's dual effect; reducing inflammation and working as an antifungal (see below). I thought this might be of interest to others as well. I had never heard, that Ibuprofen could combat yeast, but it apparently can! We haven't used Ibuprofen, but now I'm considering it, as my son's on antifungals and antivirals since Nov/Dec (fluconazol and Zovirax) and I feel like the yeast is still not under control. He's made some gains while on Zovirax (especially gross motor), but teeth grinding has come back as well as some silly behaviour, so I think I need to find more ways to address the yeast. He's taking probiotics and enzymes (not the ones with cellulase, though, as this might interfere with his liquid Zovirax, I think), and I'm planning

on starting a garlic supplement. If anyone can recommend other ways to address the yeast, that would be great. Naturally we're doing what we can with the diet, eventhough daycare is not as cooperative as I wished...Take care, NinaQuote from: http://www.yeast-candida-infections-uk.co.uk/treatment-of-autism-and-yeast-infections"Taking Ibuprofen has a duel effect ..reducing inflammation & works as an Antifungal..It’s not a substitute for Olmesartan, but useful

none-the-less Antifungal activity of ibuprofen alone and in combination with fluconazole against Candida species.

Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, exhibited antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and non-albicans strains. At 10 mg/ml, ibuprofen showed a rapid cidal activity against exponential growth phase C. albicans, accompanied by rapid and extensive

leakage of intracellular K+, permeation to propidium iodide, lysis of spheroplasts and severe membrane ultrastructural alterations. These results indicate that the killing of Candida cells is due to direct damage to the cytoplasmic membrane. At 5 mg/ml, ibuprofen inhibited growth; however, it did not kill the yeasts and did not directly affect the cytoplasmic membrane. Evaluation of yeast metabolic vitality with the fluorescent probe FUN-1 showed that growth inhibition induced by the

fungistatic drug concentration was due to metabolic alterations. The combination of ibuprofen with fluconazole resulted in synergic activity with eight of the 12 Candida strains studied, including four of the five

fluconazole-resistant strains. The MICs of fluconazole for the fluconazole-resistant strains decreased 2-128-fold when the drug was associated with ibuprofen. When in combination with fluconazole, MICs for ibuprofen decreased by up to 64-fold for all the 12 strains studied.

These results point to the practicability of using ibuprofen, alone or in combination with azoles, in the treatment of candidosis, particularly

when applied topically, taking advantage of the drug's antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Kim, there is a yahoo list. Primarily US people. Pretty good, interesting. 's son has a condition called hypergammaglobulinanaemia, (phew) which is in 's side of our family. Jay has it but it came out in another gene, expressed differently, and we chased it with Great Ormond St, along with Pandas. Long story but if you've got autism it can't be treated like everything else. Hence that name because the kids often get denied treatment. Be worth you reading the Myth of Autism if you haven't already :) Didn't use ibuprofen because of , but interesting he found it useful. Used it because it seemed the obvious thing to lower inflammation and help immune system by doing this xxxxx Eileen
