Guest guest
Abigail Im far from an expert and Im sure someone will chime in with more precise information on how to handle your situation but if your son is hypersensitive to mold no amount of remediation will be enough to make the house safe for him. Is it possible for you to get him out of that environment for a short period of time to see if his health improves? Chances are his clothes have been contaminated with mold spores and if you can move to a hotel or with a friend dont taken any clothes with you, if you can afford to buy him new clothes see if the new clothes and new environment make a noticeable difference (that would include your clothes as well). I had mold in my crawl space which was remediated not once but twice and I still couldn't live there. If your in California perhaps Sharon Kramer would be your best source of information. > > hi, > > i am new here. my almost 2 yr old has been suffering his whole life from all these weird illnesses -- sensitivity to foods he is not allergic to, wheat and dairy chief among them, reflux, leaky gut, total inability to sleep even if i hold him all night long, frequent colds, pulling at his nose esp in the middle of the night, headaches, photosensitivity, and then culminating in an encephalitic reaction to his 15 month DTAP shot. all that said, he is overall a normal happy healthy kid if that makes any sense. Guest guest
I hope I can help with a few questions. Are you on the lyme induced autism list? There was just a thread on biotoxin binders that are natural. I need to get this info together with other info I have gathered and consolidate. This is smart bunch who tend to look at all angles including mold, biotoxin illness. I can send you the comment with the most helpful info. But I have more info tucked away, as well just need to organize.. no need for em at this point to use since I am on csm and not ready to start with kids. Carl, Connie, Jeff will hopefully see the post and respond regarding remediation. You have an idea that there are elevated indoor air counts as per one sampling but you dont know much more than that as per what kind. There is also Dt Thrashers point about the wbd stew.. and what else is brewing with the mold. You want someone who will lock off the area and use hepas, scrubbers, back flow.. forget the term.. seal off ducts etc.. where protective garb and dispose properly of material. Not sure how that is done with a crawl space. I would personally want an infrared of my house to look for water damage.. a moisture meter helped us because we did not see the mold. Though it should have been obvious there was a problem because of the cracked tiles though not in the shower) Obvious water damage to anyone who had a clue adn we unfortunately did not. Also someone who will look thoroughly at structural issues..my parents house was graded inproperly and they had mold on outside structure of house becasue of that. Underground so unseen. I had the material tested but some will say it doesnt matter.. ours showed stachy. It was important for me to know. Others have their own opinions. This did not show up in air sample but then showed up low levels 1 spore per cu meter AFTER the remediation and I made teh remediator come back and remove material he left standing though double coated and made him scrub the house for 3 days.. I still had to leave. And we have since relocated. We left the house during remediation. I realized later I was still reacting to the dust in the house in an extreme neurological way. Thus we moved and I can tell you how we did this if you want to know. We did leave with a few posessions.. dog (shaved and bathed many times) and a few items we could wipe off that did not have fans, blower (except my husbands lap top that belongs to his company and is loaded with files he needs). Father of 4 year old.. I hope someone got back to you, if not, please repost.. I have deleted the thread. Guest guest
Hi Abigal, I am so sorry to hear what your baby has experienced. From what you post, I think you are on the right track of considering your living environment a potential cause for his symptoms - adding to a vulnerability to react adversely to a vaccine. You mentioned antimony. I know that is a chemical they have documented as having high levels in mattresses of sudden infant death syndrome. You mention mold in the home. I know that this is a contaminant found where people complain of symptoms similar to what you report for your son. To do a little sleuthing while trying to understand if your home is making your child ill, many people move out of their environment for a week or so to see if they feel any better being away from their home; and then move back again to see if the symptoms come back. This is difficult for a two year old to articulate. But, if it is your home that is making him ill, he will not get better until he is removed from whatever is in your home that is making him sick - or it is removed from your home. Sometimes, people are so sensitive after being made ill from an exposure, there seems to be no amount of remediation work that can make the place habitable for them again. Lots of fresh air, water, garlic and fresh green veggies are a must to help get better if your child's illness is from exposure to mold. Hope that helps. Again, if it were me, I would remove my child from the environment ASAP while trying to understand what the cause of illness is. Sharon Kramer In a message dated 10/30/2010 11:20:58 A.M. Guest guest
The air system in crawlspace is definitely not good. i'd turn that off right away. if days are cool you can use an area heater- oil filled are good. Unless it is really air tight sealed it will suck in air from the crawl space and distribute it throughout house. This sounds very serious and if it were me i'd experiment with moving out right away for a couple months. its the fastest way to see if where you are at is contributing to the problem or is the problem. Problem becomes determining if place you move to is reasonably healthy. Babies would be particularly vulnerable since they have an immature immune system. > > hi, > > i am new here. my almost 2 yr old has been suffering his whole life from all these weird illnesses -- sensitivity to foods he is not allergic to, wheat and dairy chief among them, reflux, leaky gut, total inability to sleep even if i hold him all night long, frequent colds, pulling at his nose esp in t
Guest guest
Going with Yasko protocol was a good choice. You might also talk to the folks at ASN MAxam.Their products are geared to autism & detox. Inability to clear heavy metals could have made your child more susceptible to the vaccine. They have something gentle to remove metals, something to cover infections of all sorts & other things for brain function. All their products worked like a charm for me. They'll be happy to send you loads of info & many stories & follow-ups from mothers.
Guest guest
Get your child out of the house and in a safe area immediately. Everything else is of less importance > > hi, > > i am new here. my almost 2 yr old has been suffering his whole life from all these weird illnesses -- sensitivity to foods he is not allergic to, wheat and dairy chief among them, reflux, leaky gut, total inability to sleep even if i hold him all night long, frequent colds, pulling at his nose esp in the middle of the night, headaches, photosensitivity, and then culminating in an encephalitic reaction to his 15 month DTAP shot. all that said, he is overall a normal happy healthy kid if that makes any sense. we knew he was not autistic but suddenly post shot, within hours he became autistic. no affect whatsoever although he didn't lose " skills " . it took 2 months to regain his eye contact, 4 to regain name recognition and 6 to regain affection. we have been gluten free and dairy free and soy free and largely corn free for about 7 months now. we have been pursuing alternative autism treatments (yasko supplements and other nutritional supports) this whole time. meanwhile about 2 wks ago i learn our house has mold. and suddenly it all makes sense to me. i think this is what has been going on this whole time. i think the molds predisposed him to have the response he did to his vaccine. now i am thinking we need to switch gears here as my child is clearly not autistic at this point but still suffers from the headaches, and mild photosensitivity and the inability to sleep. the gut seems to have gotten better per the igg results we just received. i am so blessed to find this group as i have a whole host of very pressing questions. anyone who has even one answer for me, please chime in. THANK YOU. > > btw, so far the air test came back with a 2200 count of pen asp in his room as opposed to 710 outside. it was a nonviable sample. and the only one we took from his room. now we must take others as we have discovered visible mold in the crawl space which is where our hvac systems are. so now we must retest and remediate and also find a doctor who knows this stuff. > > 1. we have a phone appt set with dr. johannings in NY (we live in california). is he really as good as i have heard? is there someone else we should see instead? is there anyone with pediatric specialty in this? my ideal would be a well informed pediatric fungal doc with tons of experience who uses both alternative and traditional methods to heal. > > 2. we have an austin air filter. is the IQ one better?? i have heard arguments for both. > > 3. must we really walk away from our home naked?? is it possible we can just remediate? does that work for some people? how will we know? > > 4. i have been interviewing so many mold experts and have yet to pick one as i am not sure what route to go. in terms of testers, do i go with the canines? do i do viable? non viable? petri? surface wipes?? at this point i am probably leaning towards a VERY experienced CERTIFIED guy named jack clausen http://www.jlcinspections.com/ but what i need to know is: what exact kind of testing do i do? do i test for the mycotoxins or not? will it change how we proceed? does our doc need specific tests or does the specificity of how we test the home not relate? do i do surface wipes? petri? i ask bc i recall one time a year ago i left a glass of water with a straw in it in our bedroom. within 3 or 4 days the straw was covered in mold. i found that odd but did not at the time realize what exactly that meant. > > 5. does anyone know of any connection between mold and antimony? my son has very high antimony exposure and we cannot figure out how. i think there must be a connection. > > 6. has anyone ever heard of dr. dan harper out in san diego? anyone worked with him? > > 7. i posted separately about this but am wondering on the remediation front, does anyone know anything about freeze blasting mold? seems promising and the guy is coming tomorrow to give us a bid but i am wondering how real life effective this is. freezeblast.com > > 8. if the mold is in our crawl space and affecting our hvac system then do we get the ducts cleaned, or do we HAVE to replace them? > > 9. is the inability to sleep part of all this? anyone else experience this? > > 10. lastly, can anyone tell me this all going to be ok. like, you were here and then remediated and your kid got better? i need some hope. > > thanks so much, > abigail >
Guest guest
I'd like to chime in on a few questions- I live in NYC and Mount Sinai Hospital probably has the best pediatric environmental medicine department anywhere. My daughter interned with the head of that department (she's a pediatrician) and I can get you names if you want. But look at their website too. I did remediate and I am better. The trick was that most of my mold was located in my basement and once I threw everything out (yes, everything-it was hard) and gutted the place and got rid of the mold, I slowly recovered. So where is your mold? Is it affecting every room in your house? Or if you cleaned out the AC and aired out the house substantially, would things be better? Also, get the baby out of there. I know this is not something to say lightly. My own son lives in a horrible moldy basement with his wife and baby and they are NOT listening to me. I am terrified. Can you at least sleep somewhere else? Can you get the baby out at least 12 hours of the day? Fresh air will help and the more the better. When my house was moldy I sat outside ALL day and slept in a sealed safe room with 2 air cleaners-it was crazy but it helped. That straw in the glass story is a little scary. Sounds like a very damp house on top of the existing mold. The experts here can address that I hope. Anyone agree that it sounds like dampness (possible leaks) is a big problem here? Good Luck! Call Mount Sinai Hospital! If you are flying to NY maybe a stop there will be worth it. Guest guest
Sure sounds to me like there's a dampness problem. You gave great advice. My heart goes out to you, Abigail.
