Mold Geiger Counter-Was Re: Packing

Hi AN,

Good Question. I guess that I just " invented " the term " background mold " . I

suppose I adapted the term from the words " background radiation " . Our entire

planet emanates radioactivity that we do not feel. This is scientifically called

the " Background Level " of radiation. When the level of radiation, where we are

individually located, gets high enough ABOVE the background level,it gives us

radiation poisoning. At that point we only become aware of the high level of

radioactivity by becoming SICK, and eventually DYING, from our prolonged

exposure to the radioactivity. A measuring instrument exists, called a Geiger

Counter, which can tell us that we are in an area which has a high enough

radioactivity level to make us sick and kill us.

Now, substitute the word " MOLD " , for the word " radioactivity " [above]. The only

difference is that, since we don't have a " Geiger Counter " to warn us of the

high level of MOLD, we all stay in the moldy area, until we become so sick, that

we are forced to search for the cause of our sickness. Hopefully, we discover

that mold is our personal " radioactivity " [mold], and we do not linger around

long enough for our " radioactivity " [mold] to kill us.

If we have run away, fast enough, from our personal " radioactivity " [mold], and

we survive our first episode of poisoning, our entire body turns into a " Geiger

Counter " , and we become capable of detecting different levels of mold, when we

encounter it again. Just like a Geiger Counter detects different levels of

radioactivity, our bodies are now capable of detecting different levels of mold

poisoning, for the rest of our life.

As my father's exposure to a DEATH level of mold [it killed him], in his CAR,

was the SECOND time that I had been made sick by a mold exposure, my body was

already a mold Geiger Counter, allowing me to avoid using his car, so that I

didn't die. After his death, I continued living in his house [which had never

had any mold problem].

But, since my body was now a mold Geiger Counter, I " sensed " something not quite

" kosher " about my health, and I decided to throw out " the usual suspects "

[fabric-covered furniture and carpeting], as an experiment, to see what effect

it would have on my health. Remember, " Salowitz's[me] first law of mold

recovery " states that " every time your health recovers from a mold exposure, it

only takes a future mold exposure of one-tenth the quantity and one-tenth the

time duration, to make me [and you], as sick as the previous mold exposure did,

even thouth the previous mold exposure was ten times as great and lasted for ten

times as long " .

If my efforts in " rounding up the usual [mold] suspects, and throwing them out " ,

had failed to improve my health, I would have RUN-RUN-RUN-RUN, to save my life.

If I gave you different advice, regarding your own condo, [i couldn't find your

posting] the facts in your posting must have sounded far more life-theatening,

than the " background " level of mold in MY personal situation.

Your mold buddy,

Joe

buildings *will* have basements if not attics. In the Midwest, not having a

basement or crawl space can be worse for moisture and mold--with a slab on

grade, moisture from the ground wicks into the slab and up into drywall and

carpet (not so much carpet if a proper vapor barrier is down, but it isn't

always). I would never rent a place that was slab on grade.

leaks (in the Midwest in particular). I would not want to live in a building

with a flat roof, either.

> You said your father's house had " background " molds. What do you mean by

" background " molds? Also, are you saying that you stayed in the house and didn't

have the mold remediated--you just had the carpet and soft furnishings removed?

Did you have any testing done after to ensure the place was " clean " ? I'm just

surprised because you told me to run!!! from my condo, but you're living in a

house that had a mold problem, if that's indeed what you are saying.
