Guest guest
Swedo, who put the whole Pandas (controversial) framework in action, has been doing a similar presentation to this link for a long time. To hear her talk about it is easier first IMHO - the AC Mind Institute presentation video then read Natasha's link to the latest presentation. Then that will make sense if you really want to understand PANDAS and are new to it: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mindinstitute/videos/video_special.html She explains it well in the video, and it is fascinating. Very interesting - Swedo now works on Autism. She envisages in 10 years we'll be further on. I listened to her presentation on all the different therapies and was greatly disappointed. She didn't have much to say for a lot of things that have helped our children and hasn't made the crossover in pandas to diet for instance. Your opinion might be different. If you want to hear her on autism therapies: http://videocast.nih.gov/summary.asp?live=10144 I spoke with Dr.K and Dr.T when I was writing about PANDAS, and both noted the startled look effect as a diagnostic marker, not so sure, think it could be linked with a number of things. J had this look a lot when little. Dr.T comes from the perspective that he has already seeing a pandas-autism sub group as young as 3 yo related to MMR for a number of years. Thank you Natasha for the updated link. With my previous post, I was trying to summarise, but maybe people need and want to know a lot more. Guest guest
http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mindinstitute/videos/video_special.html Sorry try above link for Swedo's early presentation, how she put the PANDAS framework together. Also if you want to read a really amazing book on OCD, read " The Boy Who Kept Washing His Hands " by Judith Rapoport. She was the person who really laid the foundations for Swedo. She worked with her at the NIMH whilst the pandas hypothesis was built. This book is highly readable and helped me to really understand what OCD is all about.(A lot of you have probably read it) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Boy-Couldnt-Stop-Washing-Obsessive-compulsive/dp/0006375\ 197/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8 & qid=1327880644 & sr=8-2-fkmr0 > > > > healthcare-professionals.sw.org/resources/docs/division-of-education/cme/bra > > in-post-infection-symposium/0900_PANDASPITANDS_Swedo.pdf > > > > Or > > http://tinyurl.com/7h5mjqc > > >
