I use it to keep track of what my kids are up to. At one point, I

accepted friend invitations from the mold community. But my kids were posting

pictures of us camping, etc. Too much information to share with the world.

Now I just keep it for old friends and family.

I was rereading my reply and thought, boy, that sounded harsh. Certainly didn't

mean it that way. Yes, I understand, and that it can be kept pretty private. A

friend of mine uses it just for her friends too.

That is the main point - don't post what you don't want seen and be careful

who you friend. There is an information war going on right now.

Not saying Facebook is bad. Quite the contrary. It is literally causing

the spark for the demand of democracy and equality in many countries.

But as a result, there are those who may try to exploit personal

vulnerabilities and friend with ulterior motives as illustrated by the HGBary

antics

on behalf of the US Chamber.

BE CAREFUL what groups you join. Be aware of its membership is all I am

saying.

Below is the story of Mohammad Bouazizi. He is like the Parks for

the Internet age. His message was spread via Facebook. It has already

caused one gov to be overthrown and protests in many other countries.

I joined Facebook to meet people from all over and to support each other-- but

also share info regarding water damage/indoor mold and the chemical issue. But

also we share photos from all over the world, food ideas, similar to here but

not so much discussion. I am very happy with all the people I have met from all

over many that are here. Many friends have done documentaries, written books,

speak with congress once in a while, so many interesting facts are learned and

shared.

It does get difficult with family also on there but if they want to hide some

stuff that is fine with me. Sharing family photos from those that live far away

has been great. Plus also getting aquainted with people I had not talked to

since childhood. So it is not all bad.

And I don't write anything I would be ashamed of or care if anyone reads.

I mainly use my computer to do queries and e-mails, also my MCS groups, did not

care to join Facebook.  My daughter and I have not spoken for 8 yrs and during

that time she kept me from her 2 daughters, never talked about me to them (we

are 2,000 miles apart), they were too young when I talked to them on the phone

to remember me.

Last year I joined Facebook to look for my granddaughters-- found them and we

keep in touch and both will come when possible to visit me.  8 mos ago the one

girl gave birth to my 1st great grandchild, a boy, sends me pictures-- means so

very much to me!  Glad for Facebook!
