Here is an article I found on VOC's in cars, amazing how much stuff is in them

:  I always place vents away from my face or breathing space and open the

windows when I turn on the car.  The plastics have been leaching phythalates

and more into our supplies including hospital IV bags.

 figure I can't get rid of it all

together but it can't hurt to open them. It will be years before they

finally tell us the truth, just like asbestos & lead paint, and then it will

be too late for so many. Same with cell phones, mold, chemicals in foods, &

cleaning products AND more.

I saw this before you posted but thought I would let it through as the

snopes.com article its not clear where the benzene is coming from and with new

car sales down, you don't know what could lead to blaming older cars but

it is on snopes.com with unclear verdict as far as I'm interpreting:
