Guest guest
Hi. Here's my sprout cooling system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQNxyONz7Uc And today I bought one of those Igloo roll about coolers (because they told us it was going to hit 110 in Brooklyn). So I wanted to keep the sprout cooler separate and put all the other stuff in a the newer store bought one( adding cold ice packs), etc. So now I have a store bought cooler for my other stuff (so I don't have to keep opening up my refrigerator door and taking stuff out.) At the start of my day I pack whatever I will need in the store bought cooler, I have my beverages in yet another cooler, I have my ice chest packed with ice, and I have my home made sprout cooling system. I rarely open in my refrigerator after all this is done in the a.m. And yeah, I wish I was wealthy and had all the amenities but I don't, I never will, but you know something, I think I have it better than lots of other people who don't know what they are eating. And I will NEVER ask another person " Do you have air conditioning? " EVER again. I was never so embarrassed as I was the other morning at breakfast. I was chatting with some people and I happen to say " Do you have air conditioning? " Well, to my astonishment, they sarcastically said " No, I'm a poor person, I don't have Air conditioning, ARE YOU KDDING ME, OF COURSE I HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, DOESN'T EVERYONE?? " The she said 'I cannot live like a poor person and not have air conditioning. I don't care if I don't pay any other bills, I will not be hot in my house, that's ridiculous " . I never saw her response coming. She acted like it was a crime not to have air conditioning. I shut my mouth and I learned that some people have this mind set that if you don't have A/C, you are not equal to them. It's all attitude and snobbery and I don't want any part of that way of thinking. I cannot abide being around people who have their nose in the air and think they are better than others because they either own their own house, have A/C, etc. You know the type I'm talking about. We all know these kind of people. It's like they have their own kind of class distinction. And this morning, one of the guys just blurted out " I don't even have A/C in my house at all (thankfully, that other person did not come in for breakfast). I looked at him and smiled and said " And you're fine right? " He just said'yeah, I have my fans " . He doesn't eat sprouts but I loved him anyway for that. lol Melody
Guest guest
It takes guts to stand for the subtle idea of spirit, soul or whatever rather than a very unstable materialism that promises to distinguish us. Anyway, is hot but it is only temporary. Today the temperature is down 10 degrees. Light, Love, Life > > Hi. Guest guest
susan.....congratulations for taking a stand !.....we don't always see immediate results when we try to change things that we see as not being right but we can refuse to be a part of, or contribute to those activities it's kind of a " stuck in the sixties " attutude.....do you want to be part of the problem or part of the solution ?.....thanks, susan.....peace, mary > > I agree with Melody about making the best of what we have. I do not use my air conditioner. I have a few fans going that keep the house airy. I was able to reduce my electric bill considerably and I feel much better that I have cut down on the amount of electricity and have more money. On another note, New York has a serious problem with Con Edison. Con Edison is excavating for gas here in NY. In order to get gas, it must apply a poisonous gas that runs and contaminates the organic fields around.. It seems there is a natural connecting underground system that carries it elsewhere (veins) . The gas collecting is called FRACKING. It also seems that Con Edison is selling stocks to other countries who are investing in the surplus gas. > > A few years back, I saw a documentary about the Tennesse Valley. Mountains were chopped off and made flat to use the carbon rocks as energy. Consequently, the valley has shown strange problems particulary rivers and fields. It made a strong impression on me. Around the food coop in Brooklyn they are selling windmill power. That is the way to go. > > Melody, where is the description of your sprout cooler. I am back after a long absence. > >

Guest guest
Melody, that woman's response was awful. But understandable, since virtually everyone does have a/c. It isn't like the 1950's, when many people (like my family) didn't have it. I have a central air unit, but can't afford high electricity bills in the summer, so I keep it around 80-82, sometimes higher. When it's really hot, I keep it around 84, and it still comes on a lot and I'm quite comfortable. I find that it shocks most people, when I tell them how hot I keep it. They say they couldn't live that hot, but take my word for it, if you can't pay a high bill, you learn to live with it.
