Guest guest
Maybe its grease of the new engine parts? You could buy one of those charcoal blankets. That would probably help. You could put a towel in the basin and put some activated charcoal inside of that and let that sit if you think it's from inside unless you want to skip the whole thing and take your laundry someplace to clean. You can buy activated charcoal by the bucket. > > I replaced my moldy washer with a new one and the offgassing was a nightmare so after a day I returned it and bought a Speed Queen that is all metals except for the agitator. Still offgassing! I can barely type I'm so sick. VOC's are a particular nightmare for me-the migraines they cause are worse than mold migraines. > Anyway, what do I do-has anybody experienced this with washers? Should I just return it? I can't buy used because I never know if it's been contaminated. A floor model maybe that's offgassed already? > I know my car took 6 months before I could tolerate the VOC's-I can't wait 6 months to do laundry. > Thanks, Surella >
Guest guest
oh excellent idea! thank you! I have something at home for absorbing odors-Zeolite (I bought it for my car) I will put it in. When you're sick you get so stupid! I can't think of any solutions at all! And I will buy the charcoal too. How long do you think it would take? I suspect almost as long with the odor absorbers as without but it's helps just being proactive about the problem. Thanks again! Guest guest
What have you tried so far ?  I would use hot water with 2 cups baking soda, shut it off so it sits in the tub (soaking) . Then I would do the rinse with Vinager. It may take a couple of times.  Can you be reacting to the rubber hose possibly ?    God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: surellabaer <surellabaer@...> Sent: Sat, November 27, 2010 6:33:47 PM Subject: [] Offgassing washer  I replaced my moldy washer with a new one and the offgassing was a nightmare so after a day I returned it and bought a Speed Queen that is all metals except for the agitator. Guest guest
The rubber hose? Maybe, who knows. I haven't done anything yet. I was too sick last week and spent most of it in bed with a migraine (yes, I was unconscious and totally missed Thanksgiving). I waited till I felt a little better. When I'm sick I can't go in the room to investigate. But tomorrow I'm going in completely masked and see what I can do. 5 weeks and no laundry done! Now THAT'S horrifying! Worst thing about this is now I have to worry about washers getting moldy. Soon nothing will be safe anymore. Guest guest
When you are done washing, do not leave the lid closed. Let it air out. Wash with borax and baking soda. Rinse with vinager and GSE and you should be fine after the off-gassing.     God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: surellabaer <surellabaer@...> Sent: Sun, November 28, 2010 5:26:11 PM Subject: [] Re: Offgassing washer  The rubber hose?
