They are a very invasive non-native fish, destructive of any environment they find their way into, and in a lot of places, especially the South, it's illegal to have them. Only fish farms can get them here in Texas where I am. They used to be available in aquarium shops but no more. The Houston zoo had a large pond full of them for many years, and when they became illegal, they had to get them out and put other kinds of fish in it. H. If they ARE illegal here, I guess I will have to hide them under my " illegal " black current bushes, and keep them from my cows that produce " illegal " raw milk, lol! I do understand about them being invasive, so I get the theory, but we are talking about them being in a tank, so no worry of them getting into the wild. I do know the guy I visited was selling the fingerlings for a dollar each. His setup was right out in the open, so not sure what legalities are, but worth knowing. > > > Wow thats just nuts cause I just found a web site just north of Kansas > > that said they deal with small time people but ship nation wide. Guest guest
Where was it you said you lived? Sounds like I need to move....Need a new neighbor? When my grandson was born 3 yrs ago, he was on breast milk and of course did fine. But mom ended up having to have surgery so she couldnt breast feed for a few days and even though she pumped she dried up. SO he had to stay on formula. He went threw several kinds, didnt set well with him, till they put him on one that was regular milk but broken down to the most basic form for easy digesting. He ended up in the hospital over night to be observed for some breathing issues. When the Dr. came in, he mentioned on a side note that if this formula didnt set well with him then they would have to " prescribe " some pro-biotics for him. He and I got into this big discussion and I told him you know whats nuts is when I was growing up there was cows milk and 1 kind of formula and that was new. When my kids was growing up they only a few choices, I said now they have TONS of them and the funny thing is that the more there are the less healthy are kids are and now we have to give them something they normaly got in regular milk in order for them to be able to accept any kind of formula! I said it makes no sence other then being $ hungry and not caring about the health of people, he looked me in the eye and said yup your exactly right, But cant do anything about it..... I have NO problems with raw milk and make lovely cheese, butter, kefir, yogurt and other goodies from it. I wouldn't drink commercial milk for anything. I liked it enough to acquire my own cows! I know NOTHING about cows, so I pay a man to take care of them for me, but it is money well spent. Life without dairy is just toooo depressing! > > OMGosh I am so Jelli , Raw milk....I want some of that sooooo bad! Guest guest
I tried to breastfeed my son but it didn't work. I had some kind of infection and was waking up just enough to feed him and he wasn't getting anything much and would cry until I gave him formula. Then still cried and I couldn't put him down. He was a big boy 9 lb 3 oz at birth.  I was exhausted as I had to hold and rock him all the time. If I pu him down, he'd wake up and cry. Doctor started changing his formula to up it. Then when nothing worked he said, put him on whole milk and if that doesn't work we'll have to go on soy milk to try that. I put him on whole milk and he shut up and was the very best baby. He almost never cried. I could take him places and had toys for him and he played and was so good. I could do business and have meetings and he was great. I was trying to schedule readers for the school's 2nd grade classes as a volunteer.  He just wasn't getting enough nutrition on formula. I would never have known how to make any other kind of milk. Even worse than the milk, is that most baby formula has GMO soy in it-horrid thing to give anyone, let alone a growing baby! Just as you said, with all the options, kids are sicker today than they used to be! If you read the ingredients on formula, and what country it comes from, it is scary! A friend of mine was having terrible issues with formula, and couldn't find any that didn't have soy, high fructose corn syrup and other stuff a baby has NO business eating. I taught her how to make her own rice milk, quinoa milk (wonderful for babies) and buckwheat milk in her Vtiamix...the baby thrived on it and overcame some serious health issues that led to the change in formula in the first place! Sometimes it is all so simple, but the doctors would have NEVER suggested she make her own! > > > > OMGosh I am so Jelli , Raw milk....I want some of that sooooo bad!
