Guest guest
I noticed that Sprout People's shipping cost was pretty high and didn't order from them. I wanted flax seed. I found pound bags at Whole Foods, with a dollar, making the pound less than Sprout People's cost even without the shipping. That's where I get most of my sprouting seeds, and I also get some at Indian groceries. The only things I buy are ones I can't get locally, such as broccoli, mustard, kale, etc. I garden and get a lot of catalogs. The shipping costs have gone up, and some have also increased the cost of their seeds. I cancelled most of the catalogs because of the increase in shipping costs. If you want a couple of pkgs of seeds that cost, say $2.99 each ($6.00 total order) then have to pay $7.95 to get them, that's outrageous! Guest guest
Yes, for sure the price of something and its shipping costs are important criteria when shopping - online or anywhere else. No disagreement there. However, the couple that run Sproutpeople seem to be very very good folks, and they provide an incredible amount of collected wisdom free in an organized accessible format, even with self-made videos. I respect and value that level of service enough to suggest sending them a short email asking for some creative options to reduce product and shipping costs. This potential reduction could be reasonably and fairly negotiated by forming a buying club of a few members (who knows how many? 10/ 20? 30?), by agreeing to purchase every couple of months on a schedule the way community supported agriculture (CSA) farm customers do, by buying wholesale then reselling, by introducing new customers, by providing educational materials, by researching or introducing new suppliers, or some other creative and fair means. Me? I value quality. They deliver presently. As long as that does not change, I will but from them unless I'm purchasing in large quantities or for resale commercially. Just one more point of view. Hope it helps. Enjoy the spring, Duncan > > I noticed that Sprout People's shipping cost was pretty high and didn't > order from them. I wanted flax seed. Guest guest
 Postage has gone up and it is done by weight. It isn't a matter of the company taking too much. It is just that with the product being paid for and not too expensive and then the shipping costs being so much, it is a problem. Getting something locally is important if it is available. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, April 2, 2012 11:34 PM Subject: Re: Increase in Shipping Costs  Yes, for sure the price of something and its shipping costs are important criteria when shopping - online or anywhere else. Guest guest
duncan.....i certainly agree with you that the sproutpeople are grand and have great stuff.....i would really love to order some sprouting trays and i'd like to get some more of their mixes too but their shipping rates are unreasonable.....i had made up an order that came to around $40 and the shipping through the usps ( the only way that we can receive packages ) came to $18 and some cents.....priority mail was the only option.....parcel post would be much cheaper but is not offered.....i just can't see handing out all of that money for nothing.....i can't afford to throw money away any more than anyone else someone made another suggestion of a place with good prices and free shipping so i'll look into that.....my preference would be the sproutpeople as i used to purchase from them years ago.....maybe one day they'll offer less expensive shipping options.....hopefully.....peace, mary > > > > I noticed that Sprout People's shipping cost was pretty high and didn't > > order from them.
