Joe,

That has always been my understanding of how it works. Government is not

pro-active on this kind of stuff unless it is of pandemic proportions. The

way it works is to change public perception and the pressure travels to

physicians, courts and finally government protocols. Today is a bit different

though because of the Internet. If all gov agencies would carry

consistent, accurate info - then that is where the public would turn to obtain

info.

That is why those recommendations of the GAO report were so important as

they called for consistent info going to the public. Once the threat is

widely accepted, then the research dollars for advancement of science follows.

Another show which had a mention of Toxic Mold this weekend was " Drop Dead

Diva "    Lifetime , (it is about a firm and one of the associates

).........................where new home owners thought the place was haunted

and wanted the get their money back for the purchase of the home.

It turned out they were halucinating due to Toxic Black Mold.

I was not glued to the set so I can only give a basic of what happened.

Went

to Att and won their claim.

Subject: [] Toxic Mold As The Lesser Of Two Evils?

As I type this, I am watching an episode of the T.V. program " Criminal Minds " .

It is an episode about a " mad scientist " spreading anthrax spores to kill

people. What made my head snap back from my computer fast enough to almost cause

whiplash, was a scene in which the people trying to apprehend the mad scientist

are entering a home while wearing a Hazmat suit. A resident of the home next

door, says to the FBI agents accompanying the Hazmat-suited agents: " My

children are in the house next door. Is this something for which I should get my

children away from here? "

The agents respond: " It's serious; this house is filled with TOXIC MOLD. " The

agents are trying to avoid the mass panic that would occur, at the mention of

the word " anthrax " . The neighbor hears that response, and with a look of

reassurance, walks calmly away from the agents, showing no visible agitation.

At first, I interpreted the neighbor's reaction as sending a message to the

viewing audience that toxic mold exposure is definitely " the lesser of two

evils " [when compared to Anthrax exposure]. So my " knee-jerk " reaction, was to

take offense at the scriptwriter's belittling my personal source of suffering.

Then, since I am a very slow typist, my brain had enough time to catch up to my

outraged emotions. It dawned on me, that, since toxic mold does not kill within

days, or hours, of exposure [as Anthrax exposure would], the scriptwriter was

not my enemy. Then, more slowly, as my brain regained it's higher functions, as

my hormonal anger subsided further, I suddenly realized that the scriptwriter

had actually accomplished three goals on the agenda of everyone in our

group.

(1) The words " TOXIC MOLD " were spoken on a national T.V. program, where

millions of viewers were hearing it spoken, for the first time in their lives.

(2) The neighbor accepted the " fact " that toxic mold was serious enough of a

health threat to require the wearing of a Hazmat suit, when entering a home

containing it.

(3) Therefore, since, for ALL of us, anything spoken on a fictional T.V. program

is accepted by our mind as being the FACTUAL truth, " no one should live in a

home containing toxic mold " .

While I applaud the efforts of our resident experts, and others, to educate the

world, by starting at the top, focusing on educating the medical/scientific

establishment [a requirement for medical and legal acceptance], and letting the

information " trickle-down " to the man/woman on the street, I am coming to the

exposure to the mass public conciousness, to finally gain acceptance by the

so-called " experts " , who have a vested interest in defending the present false

status-quo.

I agree 100%. I have always said that until someone famous gets really sick, we

will never get any legitimate press. Now I know that just saying something like

this is plain horrible-I DON " T wish it on anybody! But the sad truth is we are a

media driven popular culture loving society and that's how it's going to have to

be.
