Guest guest
I am in NM, they have a pool for the uninsurable, I pay very very little per month because my income is low and it is subsidized. Still I am drowned by co-pays and med fees they won't pay for. It is a political issue, which is nit appropriate for this forum, but one reason my sister has moved to Canada, don't believe what " they " say. Its great. > > HI ALl, > > This is Off Topic. Guest guest
Insurance rates have been going up by huge amts every year for a long time. Any reason they give is bs. No way health care bill could affect cost before it is even implemented. > > HI ALl, > Then they informed me that premiums were going to > $1,650 in October due to cost increases. Guest guest
Went to a broker yesterday, he said yes that teh new insurance will increase costs because insurers are mandated to cover all children including those with expensive ongoing medical problems like cystic fibrosis.... great we all get insurance, but it is too expensive to buy, and then we get penalized for not having it, what a country.... i am solving my immediate problem by switching to the one other less expensive blue shield plan they will allow us to move into without underwriting, $11,000 family deductible per year ($11,000 of their allowable expenses which probably means about $50,000 of real expenses) so that basically means it will cover hospitalizations. Then I will look for cheaper insurance for the 3 healthy family members, leave sick son in this blue plan until i can get him on disability. sue v. >Insurance rates have been going up by huge amts every year for a long >time. Guest guest
Here, here. Prior to the reform legislation, states were experiencing spikes in insurance: " Pennsylvania is investigating the state's nine largest health insurers over rate increases that Governor Rendell called exorbitant while California officials have investigated WellPoint's proposed increases of as much as 39 percent that the insurer later called a mistake. " This is from Reuters. Full article below. Funny how some countries seem to be able to offer quality health care without emptying everyone's pockets. UPDATE 3-Obama warns health insurers not to hike rates Tue Jun 22, 2010 5:24pm EDT * Administration releases rules for consumer protections * Industry: focus on other health industries needed * HHS says new rules to raise rates less than 1 pct * Insurers' shares down 2.5 percent (Adds Aetna CEO, industry reaction, updates with shares close) By Lambert and Heavey WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama warned U.S. insurance firms on Tuesday not to use his healthcare overhaul as an opportunity to push through big rate increases and said the federal government would work with states to monitor them. " Insurance companies ... shouldn't see it as an opportunity to enact unjustifiable rate increases, " Obama said, after meeting with state officials and insurance company executives. Obama's caution to the multibillion dollar industry comes as Democrats prepare for a difficult battle to retain their majority in Congress ahead of the November mid-term elections. His warning also further put health insurance companies on the defensive and pressured their shares. The chief executive officers from major insurers such as Aetna Inc (AET.N), Cigna Corp (CI.N) and WellPoint Inc (WLP.N) attended the roughly 90-minute meeting. Afterward, companies stressed that although they will follow the new rules, costs for consumers are likely to continue to rise. " I think there was a recognition that consumers are going to get more. When you get more, you pay more, " Aetna's CEO told Reuters after the meeting. Obama acknowledged that there are " genuine cost drivers that are not caused by insurance companies " but said companies must still publicly justify any rate increases on both the federal health website and their own. He also pointed to states such as Maine, Pennsylvania and New York that are addressing sudden spikes in health insurance rates that he said underscored the need for the landmark healthcare reform legislation passed three months ago. Pennsylvania is investigating the state's nine largest health insurers over rate increases that Governor Rendell called exorbitant while California officials have investigated WellPoint's proposed increases of as much as 39 percent that the insurer later called a mistake. Obama's warning followed a Kaiser Family Foundation report that showed health insurers are raising prices by an average of 20 percent for working-age adults who buy their own policies. His administration also released new regulations on Tuesday detailing consumer protections set to take effect in September. Obama said that " will put an end to some of the worst practices in the health insurance industry and put in place the strongest consumer protections in our history. " The rules will protect children with preexisting conditions from being denied healthcare insurance, stop insurance companies from canceling coverage, except in some cases, and prohibit lifetime limits. Wider changes take effect in 2014. > > Insurance rates have been going up by huge amts every year for a long time. Any reason they give is bs. Guest guest
This isn't really OT because of the implications for inciting the needed research to show the sources of so much disease. 1. Canadians pay a lot of taxes for universal health care. They feel it is a right and not a commodity. 2. Canada won't allow disabled people to immigrate to reduce the load on their medical system. I checked a long time ago :-) 3. The health care bill was purposely left this way so costs could rise and citizens approve its repeal. However, it can also be used as documentation to allow a public option which would reduce premiums by the sheer numbers of healthy people entering the system. 4. A major advantage of having universal health care is the tracking of costs and why they accumulated. Tobacco legislation was based in the costs tallied up in Medicare and Medicaid. The terrible side effects of Avandia (for diabetes) were only revealed when Medicare and Medicaid took a look at all the costs incurred among users of Avandia - and then tracked heart disease as being a side effect of the drug rather than just a risk among diabetics in general (avoiding that terrible charge of 'life style disease - you deserve it. " ). Let's have them trace all the neurological damage and other sequelae of mold patients back to the source when more people have access. It will start physicians asking patients with respiratory disorder and then other problems about looking for mold in their homes.
