What colors calm you or feel like they belong in your home, I went against my nature and painted my walls pink, but sponged over them with a shade of white, and used a shade of burgandy on the woodwork. I don't like red, but the over all effect is very soothing and calming, I found that once I painted my living room, dining room and hall way,( burgandy rugs, and chocolate brown furnature, and a wood, built in for the tv, lots of wood, dining room is all wood). its the most comfortable place to be in my home. I was apprehensive at first but once it was done its really soothing. Go get samples and hold them up and play see what you like that is soothing for you. I just got a reprieve in the form of a phone call from hubby who says he

will go with me tonight to look at paint samples. I did the same thing

with bulbs two years ago, ordered them, they came and sat for weeks.

Should have saved my money though, the darn squirrels ate most of them.

Next year I'm planting Yarrow.

You know, I just picked out paint for my house this past summer, so I

can tell you how I did it... I took a series of Nature Photos I liked a

lot and used them to find my pallet.

It was fun because it took the pressure off of coming up with a color

scheme myself, I just used the photos I had taken.

Other ideas I had were to look through magazines and copy what they had

done that I liked - and interestingly I've found a few rooms that look

similar to the color schemes I came up with using my photo!

If you're interested, I could post links to photos of what we did - it's

not done yet, but it could give you an idea.

> What colors calm you or feel like they belong in your home

It used to be a tan and blue. We like wood, have light honey oak

cabinets but need to get new tile, carpet, and furniture. We also have

a six burner stainless steel stove to take into consideration. I feel

calm when my home looks orderly, color doesn't seem to effect my mood or

at least I don't realize a difference.

I went against my nature and painted my walls pink, but sponged over

them with a shade of white, and used a shade of burgandy on the

woodwork. I don't like red, but the over all effect is very soothing and

That sounds nice. I think I want something that has depth as well. I

do have a booklet on how to paint to make the walls look like linen and

other textures too. Maybe my problem is that I'm too wishy-washy when

given so many choices. Thanks for the imput.

Ah Ha! That is a great idea too. I too have many nature pictures I

could utilize.

Thanks, that would be nice. I wish my camera weren't broken or I'd take

Before we got our new floors I used to say our carpets looked like

" Pollock " paintings... Downstairs it's still bad...

embarrassingly so.

Here are a few of the inspiration photos:

I was going to hang the photos all over, but unfortunately when I took

the photos I didn't know about resolution, so they are all very small

and cannot be blown up without a pixilation effect. :( We've put a

few of them in the bathroom...

Wow the blue room is really nice, calming. I really like blue, but

many people say it is a cold colour - it just looks so calming and

cool to me though. Really liked the style of that white dress too, is

that something you, or someone is making/made?

I also like the green room - the walls are very nice, smooth and

clear of clutter - infact you're very tidy. I tend to end up

collecting, hoarding stuff and seriously need to have a good

tidy/sort out/chuck out/send to charity/sell soon.

Wasn't too keen on the pink, was a bit bright for my taste and I not

really a fan of pink.

I find colour very important, now you got me wanting to decorate :-)

However I can't just decorate how I want where I live, the house is

rented, so I would have to okay any colours I use with the landlady.

I might just re-paint the living room before I leave, I really want

to move next year. This is a cold damp house I living in at the

moment, with no garden.

That is my favorite room in the house - it's where I do my reading,

sewing and yoga.

It is very calming, it doesn't feel cool at all. Maybe it's the shade?

> Really liked the style of that white dress too, is

> that something you, or someone is making/made?

It was a wedding dress I made for someone this past summer. I sew

costumes mostly, but haven't done any of that lately because of other

projects.

I used to be a huge hoarder and have in the last 3-4 years really tried

to get rid of the clutter just because it was so hard to feel calm in a

mess. My bedroom has a lot of fabric stored still, so that's my next

project. *L*

It's bare mostly because it's newly painted and I'm procrastinating on

what to do with it. I want to hang photos, but deciding what is really

hard.

> Wasn't too keen on the pink, was a bit bright for my taste and I not

> really a fan of pink.

When I selected that color just about everyone thought I was nuts, but I

stuck to my decision figuring if they are all right and it's terrible

it's a small room that I can redo. People generally either love or hate

the room... most actually love it (or are too polite to say they don't

*L*) It's much better in person and the favorite bathroom that people

use when they come over.

We lived as if we were in an apartment for 7 years before I had the guts

to make a change away from neutrals. It's a much happier place to be

now.

If you wanted a change that is easy to take down I have heard of people

thumb tacking fabric to the walls in their apartment. Some places sell

fabric for as little as $1 a yard...

It's my favorite color too. We used it all the way up the stair case and

into the hall upstairs as well. I may do something similar in our

bedroom, but not sure at this point.

They are very bright. *L*

My youngest son wants red in his room! We may just do one wall red... My

oldest refuses to have anything in his room changed, which is a problem

because his ceiling and walls are the worst worn and he needs the carpet

ripped out because of his allergies. Any ideas on getting an aspie to

accept such a major change would be welcomed. *L* He's come to tears

many times over it so we have dropped it for now.

That seems to be the same thing in our rooms. Here is a photo of the

blue room before the changes:

Before:

And I forgot an other trick I do to figure out what something will look

like. From this photo you can see that I took a picture of my staircase

and then colored in what it would look like once painted. I did this

with the color scheme as well... went to one of those paint selection

places to see if my three colors would work together:

My room painted on the computer:

You know that I understand if you don't want to talk about it too. I

have almost given up here at home, trying to be frank about how I feel

because nothing seems to help. I either keep it in my head that I want

to keep going or mull over the alternative and I've been on this track

for a long time. Can a person be considered suicidal if they don't have

an actual plan? I know it sounds aweful and no one wants to hear that

someone they know actually thinks about death all the time but too bad,

I do.

As they are getting older I am getting braver... but it's the 'leather'

part that makes it a bit easier to clean and it doesn't store the dust

mites as badly.

We moved a lot and I think we always had white walls because of

that...except for the time my mom painted a rainbow on my wall.

My parents still have very neutral walls and traditional furniture... It

all looks very nice, but is very safe - though my mom is getting a bit

more daring in her kitchen.

I was inspired mostly by friends of ours from Switzerland who have

various rooms with bright colors and neat/clean style. It always feels

so clean, spacious and peaceful there and I wanted that feel for my

home. Their colors are much darker though... but she likes my pink

bathroom a lot. *L*

" At least I'm not avoiding those bad thoughts anymore. "

Maybe it's because right now, after all this time of keeping them in,

it feels a good time to be dealing with them.

Personally, I don't see why people MUST deal with whatever they are

feeling instantaneously. Aren't people better able to deal with their

feelings when they are the most receptive to them?

That NOT dealing with our feelings can cause disruption in our lives

is important, yet the older I get, the more I am coming to believe

that if something weighs so heavily on my mind that I cannot

function, the best thing to do is to remove that thing from my

life...and I do that, but only when I am mentally prepared to focus

on it.

Most of the healing I have done in my life has been the result of

self-motivation. But it has taken a long time. I don't think it is

bad thing if the result is good.
