I recommend that you leave it. It is not worth the risk.

Lord, please dont take that especially. I know it stinks to leave things but you

will have enough to deal with already.

I'm so sorry!  Let us know how you're doing in a new place.

I would leave it.

thanks to all who have replied, the easiest and safest thing to do is leave it

behind.

My own lay-cents is that it would only be safe if you could remove all filters

then take if the unit were capable of being taken all apart and thoroughly wiped

down and cleaned. And  also might be preferable, I think, if the unit were made

of metal and not plastic? I think with a unit like Austin Air which is all metal

and easily taken apart, you might be able to do it. You would need of course to

have someone else do it-- not you.

Here's a second hand story that a friend who is mold reactive, told me. She

bought a second hand Austin Air Healthmate Jr. When she got it, she found

shortly afterwards that it had some mold in the unit. She took it somewhere to a

local store where she lives in AZ that sells air units and non-toxic products.

They somehow cleaned it. She used it in her rv for keeping the space safe for

her. She was quite sensitve to all sorts of biotxins and chems and felt that the

unit after cleaning worked for her. I have been in their rv and found it safe

for me. But we are all different. Hope this is helpful or at least inspires a

more correct response.

I agree with Sam. It would seem the most unlikely thing to take with you but I

have the Austin and if you take the filters out, it is just a metal shell that

can be cleaned easily. Other air cleaners, I don't know, not that the Austin is

the best, but it is easy to clean out. I would feel comfortable taking mine

anywhere with new filters in it, but the filters are expensive. If you replace

the filters more often than they recommend, you pay less for replacements.

There is a chart you use to figure cost of new ones depending on how long since

you bought the last one. There are other good air cleaners.

I agree metal would clean better. We have both Austin Air and Blue Air.

They're both metal - easy to clean. I really love both kinds. I'd be more

leery of plastics just because they seem to harbor smells a lot more than

metals, IMO.
