Guest guest
My thermostat is set at 70, but the sprouts are in the kitchen, which is probably a little warmer than the rest of the house. I've started a new batch according to Melody's suggestion of a different container. Depending on that outcome, I can move the container farther away from the refrigerator. No, I don't get any direct sun in the area. Thanks for responding. Dona > Now if your house is warm, mine is about 73, if it is warmer than that you probably do need to rinse more frequently. Oh, are they near a source of heat of any type? Are they getting direct sun? > We will figure this out. > R. > >
Guest guest
Oooh, how exciting, we have a new experiment going on. Please let us know how they sprout in their new container. Guest guest
Thanks EW; I'll do this next batch. Dona > > Dona, > A solution of one part household bleach to 9 parts of water will do the trick. Just add your dish soap to this. Wash the sprouters, scrub with a brush, if necessary and rinse well. > ew
Guest guest
I would like to say from the goodness of my heart but I have lots of seeds, and people have shown me kindness so I like to pay it forward. And as for time, well, anytime I can spend in my kitchen doing my sprouts and just Chillin (as they say) is time well spent). I'm going to be 65 this year. I'm not going dancing any more. rofl. Guest guest
but carolyn, you'll have so much more fun and satisfaction than you ever would get by going to the grocery store !.....good luck with your crop .....peace, mary > > A neighbor told me it would probably cost me $100 for every tomato I harvested. Might be more than that. But part of that is getting initial supplies and top soil and the learning curve -- or at least I hope so. > > > Carolyn Wilkerson > > >  > > > To: sproutpeople > Sent: Saturday, June 2, 2012 3:34 PM > Subject: Re: Re: Sprouts Turn Brown > > >  > Being frugal - read cheap SOB - how much is all this good will costing for the seed, water, time, etc? > ew > > Re: Sprouts Turn Brown > > Wow, how nice that he responded so fast. > > Good information too. > > I'm STILL glad you will be trying the SproutGarden. Guest guest
Jealousy is such an unattractive trait. Never mind your neighbour Carolyn, just be proud of what you're achieving, which is wonderful Charlotte > > A neighbor told me it would probably cost me $100 for every tomato I harvested.> > > Carolyn Wilkerson
Guest guest
I'm not a defeatist. I just know that I'm not going dancing anymore. I have arthritis (which I deal with by MOVING around a lot). I play my ipod and do whatever I can do in the privacy of my home. But my husband will soon graduate to being in a wheelchair. He can no longer walk for more than 5 minutes. So when I say I'm not going dancing anymore, believe me. I'm not going dancing anymore. lol But I really don't care. I go out to breakfast and meet up with people every morning. I can do whatever I need to do, and I take care of my hubby. That's more than some people are able to do. We have to look for the rainbows in our lives. I find rainbows every day. Guest guest
And I actually made a rainbow this morning at breakfast. I call it a rainbow when you do something that makes another person smile. This morning I brought a small ziplock bag of sprouts for another breakfast person. Well, you should have saw her face. As I explained what each sprout was, she opened the bag, smelled them and went " ahh " . I've NEVER done that, lol. She said: 'I'm putting this on my sandwich like you do " . She then took a bite, pronounced it delicious and said AND I QUOTE " Melody, I feel empowered already " . I burst out laughing and said " you do? " . Then we started talking about Chia. And she LOVES Flax. I have LOTS of flax seeds in my house. I'm starting a little tray of flax for her. She is thinking about doing some sprouting. That's how I get them to think about it. I give them little bags of sprouts and then I say " You might just want to start doing a bit of sprouting for yourself " . I now have my landlord and my beautician friend sprouting for themselves. Little by little, Melody is bringing Sprouting to Bensonhurst. And this morning, my friend was RAVING about her breakfast sprouts. She said " I have NEVER enjoyed a breakfast sandwich, it really filled me up " And the others were WATCHING. And the story shall continue. rofl. Guest guest
Well, (and might be a bit O/T), and we are talking about me dancing, here's a little video I made over a year ago when I walked into the laundromat around the corner. They play the Latin music so loud I thought I would go deaf. I must have had a good arthritis day that day because I did move!!! lol Melody > > > We have to look for the rainbows in our lives. Guest guest
Best music to do your laundry by. And I bring my sprouts in and show them to everybody. I brought my popcorn sprouts in there. They have this GARDEN in the backyard. omg!!! Melody > > > > > > > We have to look for the rainbows in our lives. Guest guest
In the back of the laundromat, they have a backyard. HUGE. Lots of plants and trees and whatever. Sometimes I sit back there with them. Nice folks. And today they had this planter thing in front of the laundromat. I walked in and said 'nice job " . I like to see things growing.
